I see two consenting adults, hurting no one and none of my fuckin’ business.

This is proton. Shop accordingly.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•If a database is edited before daylight savings time ends (time rolls back), would that corrupt the database?
3·6 days agoLike most anything, there are methods and designs (best practices) which if followed, will prevent you from falling into pitfalls like that. It’s generally only a problem if you design things to use time and not account for it. And as for the time changing while an operation is currently occurring, this again, is what transactions and other “atomic” type of operations are designed to account for. There is a lot about computer science where you need to make sure the sand you’re standing on isn’t shifting when you’re on it.

15·7 days agoThis 100% actually stopped me from moving my mail hosting to Proton. I’m looking at Tuta now and alternatives. And it’s not even the AI stuff so much as his insane toxic behaviour towards his people…the AI psychosis is almost secondary…

19·8 days agoyep, they’ve been turning up the dial for some time now …slowly implementing anti-mobile browsing nags and locking down content by classification. And good on them, nothing will ruin their run faster than their own enshittification efforts.
As a lesbian I find this oddly …satisfying to look at.

Technology@lemmy.world•Proton To ‘Re-Interview’ Staff About AI To See Who Gets To Keep Their JobEnglish
0·10 days agoYeah, self-host … then you end up on a VPS with a bad spam/RBL reputation because they have other customers being spammy dickheads, and their entire IP allocation is listed. This covers far too many VPS providers. So, when you’re trying to simply get things done, you end up randomly having to troubleshoot your emails not going through or ending up in remote spam folders.
Its a mess. Email sucks. Wouldn’t suggest self-hosting if you have low patience or are busy.

Linux@lemmy.ml•Linus Torvalds shares his thoughts on Anti-AI coding rules
1·20 days agoYou’re not wrong with a lot of the substance there, but big tech doesnt own the corpus of AI, and it most certainly will still be around even if you were to dump all of big tech (which I am very much for…!)
I’m not into utilitarianism, just trying to be pragmatic here and not jump on the strong emotional reaction train… Unfortunately, LLMs are really useful tooling …and they simply are not going to go anywhere, so I like to direct efforts to responsible governance, not mob mentality campism.
Shit no go bakie in horsie, lets put the onus and responsibility on the individual and produce better guidelines.

With that being said: Fuck big tech, fuck how AI is being used by it and large companies. Period. Full stop.
