Have anti immigration people ever stopped to think about why others risk their lives and choose to leave everything they know to come to a land of better opportunity? I’m all for doing it legally and having immigrants pay taxes, but trying to kill them to stop it is ridiculous. America is easily the richest country on the planet, and has more than enough resources to help these people.
They’re mad a new immigrant may be successful, when they should be furious at the ultra wealthy for hoarding all the money.
Have anti immigration people ever stopped to think >
No.
I mean if you have a 10 minute conversation with some native French folks they will give you a lot of really good arguments against allowing open borders for immigrants. Germany has the same problem.
This is a great point. However, let me offer this counterpoint. Racism
Don’t forget the jobs created by the murder buoy industry.
That would require empathy.
They don’t even hurt the economy overall. The people coming over are typically of working age, generally motivated and commit serious crimes at a rate less than half of native citizens. Texas has really good stats on this. The only stat illegal immigrants rate higher are moving violations. Possibly because they may not have licences or as much experience driving.
I’ve heard the arguments. It’s to take our jobs and our money. Would they like to do the jobs they claim are being stolen? No. But it’s great opportunity for young entrepreneurs, like lawn mowing! Are their kids going to do that? No. They’ll probably try YouTuber and Twitch long before anything else.
Don’t forget that the immigrants are simultaneously lazy, living entirely off of welfare, and stealing hard working Americans’ jobs. They’re Schrödinger’s Immigrants!
They’re not sending their best but they’ll take your job! (We’re saying you’re worse than them but you don’t realize it).

Most of them are misinformed, if the knew what the US was really like they’d probably sail to Canada. Being the richest doesn’t mean jack shit when there’s nothing invested in the power classes.
You’re describing the average conservative. The people who push the view that immigration is ruining the US aren’t average conservatives. They’re the ones who lie to conservatives to spin them into a rage in order to manipulate their vote. Those people are not themselves conservatives, but figureheads that collect a nice pretty penny from the rich folk to make sure the anger of their base never turns against the class whose fault everything actually is.
In short, as long as conservatives keep letting their talking heads tell them who to be mad at, they never will be furious at the ultra wealthy. And that’s by design.
The people who push the view that immigration is ruining the US aren’t average conservatives
Yes, they are.
The big problem with that comment is most of them are also saying immigrants are taking our jobs, but they won’t work them because the money isn’t good enough for the actual work that they do.
And these business owners complaining about this will turn around and hire them because they are willing to work for less than minimum wage increasing the businesses profit.
All in all, if you look at it reasonably, the ultimate problem is created by business owners wanting to make more money and to do that push slave labor wages that only the immigrants are willing to take.
Maybe I framed that statement wrong. Of course they are the ones that say it the loudest. But it’s not them who introduced that mindset into conservative crowds. Just like the recent flare up of transphobia. They hear it from the top that trans folk are molesting children, or that immigrants are taking jobs, or whatever the thing is that keeps their ire off of the rich, and they spread it around their own circles because they need an out group to villify.
You haven’t noticed that hatred for these groups tend to be a conveniently-timed deflection from actual problems?
Getting the average Democrat riled up and angry at the average Republican is also by design. As long as the working class is mad at itself, it isn’t looking at the ruling class as the problem.
The ruling class is absolutely the source of the problem.
Three minutes of hate coming in 3… 2…
That would require them to realize how much the US has destabilized Central America over the past century.
Cruelty is the point, it’s practically a virtue. And that cruelty also drives down wages so it’s a message that gets plenty of air time.
Good. But watch them refuse to do it. They would rather kill people.
Yep, they’re Good Christians who believe in the “sanctity of life”.
Sanctity of the life they choose.
Murderers gonna murder.
They’ll go to jail for contempt if they refuse. I’m honestly surprised a preliminary injunction would require this though.
Edit: they’ve already filed an appeal on that order (interlocutory appeal) today https://www.courtlistener.com/docket/67630985/united-states-v-abbott/
Judge pretty much says the state isn’t even offering a defense so
Defendants shall, by September 15, 2023, reposition, at Defendants’ expense, and in coordination with the United States Army Corps of Engineers, all buoys, anchors, and other related materials composing the floating barrier placed by Texas in the Rio Grande in the vicinity of Eagle Pass, Texas to the bank of the Rio Grande on the Texas side of the river
Who goes to jail? The governor? The State Senate? The head of Texas Border Patrol? AFAIK when it comes to agencies, there are no teeth - are there?
It’s the US v Abbott after all. Gov. Faubus was justifiably afraid that Pres. Eisenhower was going to have him locked up after not complying with a court order to desegregate the schools and caved before the 101st airborne arrived.
Don’t try to cross the dangerous border that warns you that it’s a dangerous border and you don’t have to worry about dying. Even without the buoys telling you that it’s dangerous people have drowned before.

Many of these immigrants are crossing other countries where they would be safe if they stopped there. Instead they choose to continue on to the US. At that point they are economic migrants, who are trying to skip the queue.
It’s the same here in Australia. Instead of stopping in a safe country in SEA, they make dangerous boat voyages because they believe they’ll be better off financially. We turn those boats around or keep them offshore, where at anytime they could go somewhere other than Australia but they don’t want to because they want to try and seek welfare here.
I have no sympathy for them. Let in the people who apply properly to come here. Not those who try to sneak in.
Some have other options. So your solution is to condemn all of them? No sympathy, even for those who are fleeing death? You’ll let them all die because you think some people might take advantage?
Why not have a system where you let people in, give them temporary safety, and evaluate their situation before deciding whether to admit them or return them to their country of origin?
Maybe you like that some of them die? Is that a benefit of the current system?
See, this is how I know you don’t know what you’re talking about because they’re not safe if they “just stop there”.

Quick, somebody get this guy a “source” for the US repeatedly destabilizing Latin American governments and supporting paramilitary guerrilla groups over the course of decades
And why don’t they just stop in Mexico? If they’re fleeing Honduras they’ve already achieved their goal.
Because the U.S. has always taken in asylum seekers. Why are Hondurans any different from Somalis or Hmong?
We can only take so many and crossing the border illegally should mean they are sent back. Do it right or go home. We have the right and the responsibility to protect our borders.
Feel privileged you aren’t so desperate as to take such a risk.
They’re not stupid. Their other options are worse, or they wouldn’t come here. If drug cartels (largely funded by American consumers) came for your family, are you telling me me you wouldn’t go wherever you needed to to protect them?
Believe or not there are things worse than downing in the Rio Grande, which is why they try it anyway.

Do you own your own house? Because I do. A nice two-story home on four acres of land that is mine.

The destabilization of Mexico and Central and South America is our fault. It’s our moral responsibility to help these people flee the problems we created.
Don’t put up barriers that are designed for cruelty and murder because you are an ignorant, racist garbage dump of a Constitution violating governor and you don’t have to worry about going to federal prison.

Idk I feel like they should give them independence already. Cannot have Texas problemas if you don’t have Texas. And it will destroy itself in a couple of weeks at most this way.
Texas has a huge individual gdp and is an important port. Build the residents a floating island and push that fucker off into the sea once they get on it.
