I have only been gone from reddit for just over 6 months. Today I made the mistake of browsing it, there is so much misinformation, noise, and hate. After scrolling for about 10 minutes I realized that I hadn’t seen anything of substance that I hadn’t already seen on Lemmy

I really don’t feel like I’m missing anything by leaving reddit

I don’t know if it’s just me but last time I browsed Reddit or Facebook they just gave me a bunch of unhinged right-wing phobic bullshit.

I dunno if it’s because my privacy skews their data on me or if they’re just trying to feed me misinformation but either way fuck these companies.

I quit Facebook all the way back in 2015 with similar results

Leaving Reddit gave me similar mental health relief as it did when I left Facebook

Jesus, I’ve been consciously aware of the fact that I’ve fallen into this exact trap, again. Honestly didn’t really know if others were trapped in the same cycle.

For me, the issue is that there’s no viable counterpart to many of the reddit communities I used to enjoy. There’s more general lots, sure, but so few that actually touch base on the same familiar level.

Maybe it’s time to walk away.
