I’ve been using Deemix for several years, but it’s not maintained anymore and it finally stopped working :<
But the way it worked was you paid for a deezer.com subscription and gave the login arl token to the deemix app. Then the app could download the music files using your account.
Is there anything like that these days?
There’s this: edit:removed due to vibe coded
@zout@fedia.io what is wrong with vibe coded? The dude literally asked for recommendations on vibe coding himself.
Well, you have AI assisted coding, where a programmer uses AI to write code faster, and you have vibe coding where someone who has no idea can deliver functional software. The first I have no issues with, but with the second you never know how vulnerable your stuff gets to being hacked. I didn’t look into this project much, but when someone comments it’s vibe coded, I assume it really is vibe coded. And since there are already other alternatives mentioned in this thread, I just went the safe route and deleted the link.
@zout@fedia.io I’ve worked in commercial software for over 15 years, and I have 0 trust in security on anything hand coded.
Is there a particular reason for downloading from streaming services? If not and lossless is important to you, it might be easier to use something like Soulseek (via Nicotine) and get flac files. There are some projects like SockSeek that can automate downloads (I used it when it was called sldl to convert my YouTube playlists into a local flac music library).
is sockseek one of those clients that doesn’t share back and just leeches off the network?
If so please don’t use it, people have started putting capatchas on their shares because of these clients and it messes up legitimate clients like slskd
If you don’t share back then sure, it’s a problem. Since I do, I don’t see an issue with using things like Sockseek to build your library first and then start sharing. I had zero flac files when I started. Sldl jump started my library. As I’ve ripped CDs, gained more, and run them through Picard, I’ve been able to build it up even more and share rarer music. Not everyone using projects like Sockseek are leechers and there are plenty of leechers using Nicotine as well. Personally I would rather just not bother with gate keeping leechers and lead by example. (Especially when it could inadvertently negatively affect newbies).
Soulseek is like Napster. You’re not downloading from a swarm just directly from others and once you host those files, people can download them from you.
