ppl in the 1820s: I lost my house, my job, and all my savings! I am going to ruin the lives of the ruling class!

why can’t people be like that now?

why can’t people be like that now?

A historical aberration known as the middle class was intentionally developed in response to the threat of communism which developed a corresponding ideology of rugged individualism, personal responsibility, and the common self perception in the working class that they are only “temporarily embarrassed millionaires”. All in concurrence with the destruction of third spaces, unions, and communities founded upon mutual aid.

In short, we have a lot of unlearning to do.

The learning only lasts as long as people remember. At some point, all the people who became (or were raised by) middle-class will be gone

We already see this with Zoomers / Gen Alphas. They don’t give a fuck, because they grew up watching both their broke-ass millennial parents somehow working their asses off full time while still taking it up the ass by the economy. Love them disillusioned little gremlins

          I’m gen Z, I’m gay, and I do crime :3

I was raised by boomer parents though, i think what pushed me to liberatory ideologies (i’m a communist) is the complete disconnect between what my parents believed was reality and what reality actually was for normal people. They got that middle class life, it was practically handed to them and they just assume its that easy for everyone else. Drives me up the walls

The Greek “revolution” was a nationalist one to win independence from the Ottoman Empire, not a class war

Now its a smartphone and a 50 sqft studio apt that’s $2500/mo. Hey at least we dont have kids to worry about like back then they would have had 17 kids to feed during the depression.

If you know you can’t feed them and someone else demonstrably can, it’s not so clear, especially if you also have several other kids you can’t feed, whom you could feed with that money (but leading with that arithmetic is definitely mama bird shit, as is abandonment).
