Inspired by this thread where at least five different libs made the same point and responded the same way when I tried to poke their bubble. Seriously CTRL+F my username or the word “voter” it’s downright surreal. The hivemindness of the affair was also pretty weird, but I’m not one to meme the same interaction twice.

Honestly, this shit is what made me stop logging on to Bluesky. Being on that site was depressing the fuck out of me, I came away thoroughly beat up every time.

I argued with a libertarian IRL once and they accused me of watching too much liberal news. There’s no point in arguing with robots that answer in binary and have no media literacy.

My favorite is when they make fun of Biden in retaliation, and then I join in on it. It breaks their tiny world.

Reminds me of the time my boomer dad was losing a political argument and started to talk about AI out of nowhere thinking I must be enthusiastically in favor since I use computers a lot.

Turns out it’s one of the few political topics where we are in complete agreement, and it was a much nicer conversation after that 😁

Hey, now. Let’s not disparage our helpful peeps that actually speak binary. Libertarians are more like clones than droids, TBF. 😆

I couldn’t get past the part where someones rebuttal was “I’m just offering common sense”. Had to stop reading there. I’ll stay in the box this time. These libs are all yours comrade.

It’s your own fault for assuming that “honest debate” is a valid strategy for dealing with people who insist that oligarchic popularity contests qualifies as “rule by the people.”

Do not engage with liberals unless you are willing to go all the way and attack liberal mythology at it’s roots.

I just enjoy reminding them that neoliberalism is a right wing ideology. They are not “blue” and never were. Baby you’re closer to maga than to me.

Neoliberalism is a right-wing ideology because it’s parent ideology, liberalism, is a right-wing ideology.

In fact, if you have to explain neoliberalism to the average working-class person, a pretty simple way of going about it is to simply state that neoliberalism is merely liberalism with all the pretensions stripped away.

Touche, but fair enough. I’d assumed such a minor point would get decent reception since it doesn’t directly challenge their worldview, but yeah that’s my fault.

Sorry if I came across as a bit cranky… but I do feel it’s high time leftists stop handling liberal brain rot sufferers with kid gloves.

Everybody wants to punch Nazis - nobody wants to deal with the liberal oligarchies that inevitably enables fascists as soon as they get forced an inch to the left.

We are going to have to start somewhere.

A mix of both is usually what I find the most helpful. At least in actual propaganda. It’s ok to use the language of liberals to spread the propaganda of “doubt”. It’s sometimes more effective to hook a single contradiction with their own language than it is to address liberal thought directly. At least for the liberals that are attached to the Democratic party with real hopes of material improvements.

Though if one is commenting about politics on Lemmy. They are not really likely to be this type of liberal. They are likely to be too lost in the sauce of electoral politicals to actually be the ones I’m talking about. Propaganda of doubt is much more effective in real life with an opportunity for repeated conversations.

Though, I still think it’s useful online, but not as clearly. OP had a good comment that used Abdul El-Sayed as an example to introduce a contradiction around the reasons they were giving around “Electability”.

People like these politicians like Mamdani and Abdul. They introduce dual contradictions that can be exploited. Their Muslim faith and their SocDem (being fair here I think. But “sewer socialism” if you want) policies. The first obviously being a counter to the rise in anti arab and Muslim rascism. That they handle like liberals beautifully, hooking them with the moral arguments Democratic voters love. But, then are actually contradicting the political process and “just vote” arguments that they also love. And Mamdani at least, is doing this through the use of SocDem policies with actual material results. And that’s our goal. Because we know that people are influenced by their material conditions.

Edit: I wrote more. But then realized I was getting lost in the weeds when I had to start writing about Lenin and a major difference in how propaganda is spread vs. today. So I’ll stop. I won’t pre rebute why a rise in material conditions is good vs. doomer accelerationist (into fascism) shit online leftist always spout. I’ll address it later when it inevitably comes up.
