I wonder if we can get new congress to pass some laws protecting consumer computer component availability. There is a solid national security argument as the demand for home computers won’t entirely go away, so people will be buying components from other countries (like scary China) if there is no US market availability.

I don’t suppose buying AMD is really much of a protest vote against Nvidia. I also see the 7900 XTX is going for $1800 whereas it was available for a little over half that a few months ago. 😖

Nvidia is changing focus to consumers again. Jensen knows the future of Ai is local. Every move he made recently shows that. Buying hugging face, rtx spark. He knows the large data center model is starting to end.

I would wager a guess that there’s no more pre-orders of everything they’ve got and there’s a lot of demand built up for the consumer side. I still wouldn’t expect prices to come down any time soon though, unless some of the hoarded chips flood the market somehow.

This! Yes. 100% agreed. Of maybe 98. I don’t know if the large data center model ends, nor if he knows that.

I do know that Nvidia topline growth story cannot grow more than it’s done with frontier models. It can though keep growing if local inference or anyway distributed inference becomes a thing. But if the market doesn’t believe that, as frontier labs IPO it’s Nvidia stocks that get sold otherwise.

They could gain an unbelievable market share if they prioritized users… But I guess the DRAM pricing is also getting in the way; easier to get margin if you’re selling to a data center.

What good is high market share in a market that’s well on its way to being killed off for good?

Retail users have - unfortunately - neither the disposable income nor the political will to compete with the billionaires driving this development.
