  • I love everything about wanderer, just wish that you could look at trails on a full-screened map on mobile. Currently pulling up the trail will provide a small map inside the webpage for you to see the trail, which on desktop works great, but mobile it feels like the map should be the more important aspect (similar to apps like osm, all trails and gaiagps). Because of this I am mostly using it as a database to then download the trail and open it in osm.

  • If you want to immigrate into a country, you must 100% be aligned with the values of your new country.

It’s just hard to say that when a lot of European Colonialism took place in these countries, some gaining independence within the last 100 years (referring to the middle east as alluded to in your last paragraph)

I don’t really know where to stand and I don’t think you can be in a position that is correct given the effects of colonialism from Europe. The fact that some effects of this colonialism (especially in Africa) have destroyed some countries/cultures, when the natural population didn’t “100%” align with the colonizers makes it hard to not sympathise with these people. A lot of these immigrants are leaving their home countries (not all), due to the rippling effects of colonialism.

I should say while I agree with your statement, I don’t know how to account for the effects of external influence that may be causing said immigration.

Personally, there are some smaller communities that exist on Reddit that just don’t exist on Lemmy, or have inactive communities. The other option for some of those communities is Twitter, so I’d much rather just check Reddit. I also don’t expect my local towns subreddit to move to Lemmy from Reddit. I think it’s less about returning to Reddit and more so wanting to participate in small communities that exist in Reddit.

  • Personally I wish we could toggle the teleportation function on and off so we don’t have to keep them frozen in one spot all the time

I really wish I could make my mobs just roam an area like the Golems do, would help so much to liven up builds. The teleporting mechanic makes sense so you don’t lose mobs, but it just ruins my immersion when I see a mob is just teleporting (maybe they make it teleport when you aren’t looking at it)

  • I’d agree that’s annoying yes, but it’s free. There comes a point where the amount of free users upgrading to premium isn’t enough, so they’re left with either changing the free service to boost that number or remove free as it likely loses them money. I’d agree that it’s shitty yea, but the free product is meant to be a preview to entice premium subscriptions. If they aren’t getting enough upgrades, something has to change (in their view)

  • So are limited free demos a shitty method because you then have to pay to get the full experience? I don’t understand why people are so upset that the free experience gets worse, economically it makes sense and any company would do it. They do not need to offer a free service at all, but they do it to help cultivate a premium user base. It’s pretty consumer friendly they offer a free version to let you make sure you want to use Spotify before you pay. I just don’t think offering a free product to entice paying for the full thing is a “shitty method”.

Even if it was only jeb making passing comments, or other developers, it still put the community in a place where they didn’t think something like an autocrafter would be added. (Especially since jeb was/is the lead developer of the game). In my opinion if the lead dev comments on something, it represents the game too, that’s why they have the platform to begin with. There are plenty of posts throughout the community saying they never expect an autocrafter to be added. Whether intentional or not the community was led to these expectations by the developers of the game. I think that either way it’s beneficial for them to communicate the thinking behind such a game changing feature.

And, in my opinion, Mojang’s vanilla features tend to be more polished than modded features when they’re finally implemented.

Sorta an unfair comparison as there are hundreds/thousands of mod authors leading to a wide variety of polish. There are a good bit of mods that are very well thought out and polished. If you take for example the Create team and compare it to the polish of Mojang I would say they’re comparable (they both have different intentions, more commenting on the polish and thought put into features.)

But I guess they’ve changed their minds. Honestly, that’s exciting. More companies (and people) need to be willing to do that when they have a good reason.

I’m decently excited for them stepping out of their comfort zones to try something different, it’s what leads to interesting changes and features that can change the game forever. The big issue I see is how they fail to communicate the decision well. I think in the recent past, it seems as though Mojang have had issues communicating their decisions to remove content previously announced. I think these decisions need to be more openly communicated with the community. Crafter is a very huge addition that will likely change the game forever, I think it would be a net beneficial thing for Mojang to communicate why their design decisions have changed to add such a large feature. Changing your mind is always a good idea, but when you are a large figure in a community it’s beneficial to communicate why your mind has changed.
