  • Historically Russia has had very good hacking programs, coders for one very important reason - they’ve always been sanctioned to hell and their equipment therefore remains limited to older models, which made hackers and programmers get very efficient and creative with what they have - the problem is ai doesn’t go very fast with that method, you need at least for now to rely on adding more and more gpu’s to increase the speed at which you’re advancing at least in initial training. If you find your successive models resulted in one you need to fix, you have to go back and retrain, so you need to have all that equipment on hand to do it, just distilling won’t fix issues you want fixed. So they’re limited. That makes it harder to be a leader where it’s necessary to have the most powerful equipment in the highest numbers.

  • If an explosion of ai-based hacking bots causes servers to adopt a new tech for approving browsing based data requests, I wonder how quickly Lemmy can innovate into that system as well. As it stands the fediverse still hasn’t solved the problem of basically DDOSing a site when a post is made and all the instances call the same site for thumbnails and post text. I wonder if they’re prepared to follow any potential future changes in how those calls for data are even made to begin with, let along proliferating them amongst all instances.

  • Yeah and this isn’t from the point of a cheater, it’s from the point of a partner who is clearly into intelligence as a kink, known as a sapiosexual. Sapiosexuals are found in high percentages of couples who have open relationships, but open relationships require massive amounts of communication and trust. If you find out your partner is an idiot who is caught dismissing or outright breaking the previously agreed up rules, it stands that you find them less attractive because they’ve proven they were not very smart about the agreement, they put the relationship and perhaps your and their health at risk. This doesn’t have to be about cheating, it can just be about stupidity. Focusing on the cheating says more about the commenter above and not the original post.

  • Several things pop up in my mind immediately - the most obvious is, more experience in politics is very often thought of as a bad thing. If a political system has become stagnant or even has resulted in the decay of a national infrastructure, the systems therein, people typically recognize that corruption and laziness and capture from powerful often scary outside systems and people are the cause, and any politician that’s been participating the entire time is more likely to be complicit compared to a new comer. At least that’s the pervasive belief of the general populace.

Two - often higher numbers of degrees or accreditation just means harder work ethic, but not necessarily better innovation or the novel capabilities and insights needed to meet the moment for the right change necessary. A great example is Lincoln, who is hailed as one of if not the greatest President for many reasons, but most notably saving the union from fraction and self destruction. He was known as a self taught great orator, extremely intelligent but only had 10-12 months of formal education total. His entire life. Very often innovation and genius comes from unexpected places, and cutting that out as a potential source for solutions and leadership would be a very serious mistake.

Three - limitation based on achievements marked by what’s been seen by some as an elite, inaccessible to many system that is flawed in how it teaches and tests its candidates serves to keep power, access, top roles from demographics historically, a great example is how voting during the heights of racism in the US requires literacy tests to ensure minorities couldn’t vote because it was illegal for minorities to go to school and learn how to read. This applied in other ways to women as well. The same can be applied to people who can’t afford a masters or phd, or even to finish high school because they have to work to help their family survive. A higher degrees example might be how Harvard and a few other ivory league universities hold the vast majority of some occupational positions, 16 of the Presidents being one example.

It’s worth noting that 12 presidents had no degree, including Washington, so we wouldn’t have had those people or their leadership. That might be good in your opinion, but the world is different now and applying limiting tests like that today would severely limit the pool from which we could select candidates, and most people don’t want the job tp begin with, which limits it to very few, many of which you really don’t want holding that power.

  • This is why having a minimum wage that actually covers costs of living matters, so one parent can work and cover the basic needs and if they desire one parent can stay home and teach the kids the basics like that you don’t have to lay on the fucking ground to siphon gas, you can use physics and your thumb to get the job done while keeping your cloths clean and your self esteem intact.

  • Same, personhood isn’t limited to humans. If you can be a best friend or confidant or true co-companion that is mutually beneficial and mutually understood, that’s all I need to know there’s a person in there. I’ll even extend it to other animals that exhibit complex thought, considerations, relflective behavior, but I don’t push that on other human people, if they want to join me in doing so, they’re my kind of people. The more the merrier. I feel bad for people who can’t see animals that earned their friendship as fiends, as people.
