The amount of male to female ratio of comments on this post is wild. We’ve been tackling the female taboo skills so much in the last few decades. Obviously we’re not done but it’s time for the men to make progress too.
Also I guess I can code. And while it’s hardly weird for a woman nowadays most of my field is still 80-90% male
Genuinely don’t know if I qualify. I tend to score pretty high on the tests because my brain “gets” the exact kind of logic they usually test. What is more important though is that the tests suck in so many ways that it makes the results basically useless. Also I have yet to meet anyone who brags about their IQ score who happens to be anyone worth knowing.
They’d need to pay me a lot of money to get me to even consider joining Mensa.
With a couple of governments making the switch I honestly think that things are changing to some degree. Will windows die and be forgotten by everyone overnight? Of course not. But I think there’s a real chance their piece of the pie will start to shrink noticeably. Chrome OS is dominating in schools for a few years now and Microsoft is seemingly trying hard to alienate the current windows users.
My husband and I are in our mid 30’s and don’t have kids. I even work from home 90% of the time so no commute time. I have so much time that I do volunteering next to my full time job. And then I still have time for hobbies.
This comment just made my week.
I don’t know. It takes a while to get organized but I have confidence that they’ll get there. At least based on what I’m seeing at the moment. Could obviously still just slowly die down again. Time will tell.
Everything I’m looking forward to is all in my personal life. We’ll pick up a new furry family member later today and I’m looking forward to getting to know them for example. Looking forward to learning new creative skills I can use as an outlet. Globally speaking I’m currently not optimistic enough to look forward to anything.
Wish I could take credit. I’ve seen it around and it just fits perfectly when it comes to all those tech bro’s and the way they are acting in relation to politics and power. It’s now just part of my vocabulary.
I love Pixelfed specifically because of the artsy, visual inspiration. I dearly miss browsing through my instragram feed and getting incredibly inspired by seeing people create amazing and beautiful things, including using techniques and crafts I had never even heard of before.
Pixelfed is starting to kind of be that for me, but Reddit did some of that too. Some of the most niche crafts even had their own subreddits. I just want to be able to be inspired by my social media feed again - ideally without algorithms aiming to get me stuck there. And without the broligarchy threatening to take it away at any moment.
Sure, but I still suspect that we’ll get a large influx of crafters and other artists that will be visible in Lemmy directly. Still very much excited
This is absolutely perfect! The crowd I am following on Pixelfed is pretty much exactly what I am still partially missing on Lemmy. So excited about this. Thanks for sharing!
It doesn’t help that Tesla are also screwing over the people who buy them. I have heard so many horror stories of what happens when something in your Tesla breaks. Most of it sounds like purchasing a Tesla doesn’t mean that Tesla thinks you actually own that car. Lookup “Tesla right to repair” for just a taste of the mess.
Sadly a lot if not most of these changes will take generations to reverse. It’s the sad reality of things.
The main good thing I am taking from the news currently is that as far as I can tell the people won’t accept this for very long. Can’t quite yet tell how or what will happen, but I’d be surprised if the current regime are still in power in the same way 1-2 years from now. The protest are amping up at an intense speed, the videos coming out of the few republicans still giving town halls feel like the crowd is a pot about to boil over.
Makes sense. This is doing decades of damage. Plenty of past groundbreaking research came out of the US. But I get it. I wouldn’t want to move to the US either for very much the same reasons. Lack of affordable healthcare, lack of paid holidays and gun safety would be the main reasons. Lack of food regulation would also be a concern. And now the current regime and the way too large chunk of the population that still seems happy with it means we put even tourist travel plans to the US on hold. Too scary at the moment. Trying to help the best I can from here, but there’s only so much you can do at a distance.
All numbers I’ve seen for record applications were for high level research and university level teaching. Maybe the medical doctors mainly moved states? At least I haven’t seen them making headlines about moving to Europe.
And as far as I’ve seen the numbers it’s working too. Anywhere in Europe that is academic or sciency is seeing record numbers of Americans applying. The brain drain will be real.
Also never underestimate how many bots there are. And how many users have 10+ accounts. Seeing less evidence of that on Lemmy so far, though who knows honestly.
My partner and I also have 2 cats at home. Litterbox is cleaned about 6 times a day. Only possible because I usually work from home. They both insist on using the same litterbox and they are both young and still have a fairly fast metabolism. 4 out of those 6 times there’s poop in the litterbox.
I always thought I’d be a crazy cat lady someday with 5+ cats. Turns out once we got #2 I understood that 2 is enough for me.
