  • Huh, I wasnt originally planning on activitypub in what I’m building cause I see little reason for my group’s needs, currently just thinking a basic api so you could hook several instances together. @ApathyTree@lemmy.dbzer0.com would that cover your use case or would a broader activity pub implementation be better?

(Also absolutely no promises this turns into something beyond just being useful to the group I’m involved in, but I would like to make it something broadly useful if I can with the time I’m able to put into it.)

Meanwhile my experience with automounting network drives with dolphin is

Open Dolphin > Add Network Folder > Enter creds > Check automount box > done

I haven’t had to use the terminal for anything in years. There’s some things I do in the terminal, but that’s because I like it better, not because there isn’t an intuitive way to do it.

The reason guides tell people to use the terminal is because it’s the same across DEs, not because there aren’t DEs that make it more intuitive.

Would I throw a random non techy friend on Linux? No, because it’s not what they’re used to. If they had no computer experience at all though I absolutely would.

Its good for people who like the one very specific workflow they go for.

My main problem with it is they cause problems for like every other DE. GTKs insistence on only supporting CSD makes any GTK app integrate so much worse on anything else. (Vice versa having no fallback ssd, so apps are just broken on gnome if the toolkit doesn’t support CSD)

Or all the problems it’s caused with various Wayland protocols by refusing to compromise or saying nothing until it’s almost finalized then coming out against them.

Like Valve explicitly calls out gnome as unsupported because they refused to implement DRM leasing for years.

I don’t dislike gnome because of the software itself, opinionated projects are good, even when I have different opinions. I dislike gnome because I think it’s a net negative to the Linux ecosystem as a whole.
