My guess is that bacteria down in the crust near thermal vents would live the longest. Thousnands of years if they are able to follow the heat down.

Figure bunkered people might make it a few months depending on their power source and ability to withstand dropping pressure. Not sure how long it would take for the atmosphere to freeze. Government bunker that is vacuum proof with a reactor might make it a decade.

  • I actually have a wood lathe and all the other tooling to make one, not that I would.

I’ve been fixing the place up since August. It’s a farm that hasn’t been properly maintained in about 20 years.

I’m doing my best to build to the standard of the original owner and his son with modern materials and methods. It’s a humbling experience. Nothing is quite square but everything is built like it’s bomb proof. You couldn’t afford to build out of solid wood like they did. The joints and meets are also super tight, you can’t get a sheet of paper between roof boards on the barn in most places.

  • Then they should have taken better care of their cat. Note that I said if it’s wormy and doesn’t have a chip.

I say this a cat lover that never lets our cats outside. There is an argument to be made that almost all housecats should be eliminated through whatever means necessary. The statistics on what they do to ground nesting birds, songbirds, reptiles, etc are pretty depressing. Anything that gets them off the streets and inside is good, in my opinion. They are an invasive species almost everywhere they live.
