This is why Blender is truly the best of us.
Sad.
My current phone is a Samsung Galaxy A32, the last in the A3x line that has one. It’s really nice to have a headphone jack because… well, you plug your pair in, and it just works. You don’t have to worry about Bluetooth connections, or another battery that will die one day that you constantly have to recharge. Also, you get FM radio functionality on your phone, which isn’t really useful, but it’s pretty fun to mess with. I’m surprised Apple never had it on the iPod Touch despite the Nano and Classic both having it (some with a special accessory that unlocks the feature, some have it built in).
Also, support for my phone ends on Android 13 (One UI 5.1), meaning if I want new features (or even emoji updates), I have to get a newer phone, and that means either getting a lower tier model to keep that headphone jack at the cost of performance, or getting the same tier (or higher) at the cost of the jack. And I was never convinced by other Android phone manufacturers either, especially since companies like OnePlus don’t sell their products in my country, so my options are either Samsung, Google, or a whole bunch of Chinese companies, many have really terrible skins of Android. Either that or I get an iPhone, and none of the ones that are currently supported have the headphone jack. So I guess I’m sticking with my A32 until the day it nukes itself.
In my country, which is Morocco, the organ of love isn’t the heart, it’s the liver.
My mom sometimes calls me “lkbida diali” which just translates to “my liver”.
Lemmino. Wait, a Swedish YouTuber already uses that name.
I don’t listen to podcasts that much, but I am a big fan of the Lingthusiasm podcast. I was actually introduced to it by none other than Tom Scott (although he doesn’t really host it himself).
Canada is already a state… a SOVEREIGN state.
I love how Northern Ireland is south of the Irish Republic, yet every other country is accurate.
My favorite PPG villain, honestly.
GBA: I really like the remakes of the first Pokémon releases, being Fire Red and Leaf Green. It just makes me wonder why they never went with Green for the international release of the Game Boy version.
PSP: Patapon 2. It’s kind of impressive that they made a rhythm game with an actual storyline, being that you’re a god that is guiding a tribe to “Earthend”, using a set of drums to give them commands. I thought it was the best game in the series, and even has a remaster on the PS4 if you’re interested in that.
Yeah, those are the only consoles I have actually played. It’s not fun being in a country where video games are astronomically expensive.
Public Domain Day. It’s the day when many works enter the public domain for use without getting permission from the copyright holder, therefore you could do some really interesting takes on the media. This year, Popeye and Tintin entered the public domain. Last year, it’s was Steamboat Willie, the iconic first Walt Disney cartoon with Mickey Mouse.
Problem is, Public Domain Day is on 1 January, the same day as New Years Day. People really love to celebrate the latter (not in my country, barely anyone cares about either).
Resol - can mean a number of different things. It’s the first 5 letters of the word “resolution”. It’s also the word “loser” spelled backwards. It’s two notes on a keyboard (D and G in Anglo-Saxon music notation). And it just looks and sounds cool in my opinion.
van - the Dutch word meaning “of” or “from”. Note that I am not referring to actual vans (the German equivalent being “von”, which also appears in a lot of names). Also I prefer spelling that word completely in lowercase.
Lemmy - isn’t it obvious? It’s this wonderful website.
Put them together, and you get “Resol van Lemmy”. It sounds pretty nice, don’t you think? Especially since I really hate my real name.
Germany, Bahrain, Belgium, France, and Qatar.
I actually wanna move to Belgium one day, so it’s nice that I can get some help and advice from a family member whenever I need it.
I think Blender is a very honorable mention, especially since the team that makes the software has also used it to make some really impressive short films, such as Big Buck Bunny. Who knows, maybe some indie studio can use it to make some truly wonderful stuff (and I wouldn’t be surprised if that was the case).
To me, they’re a lot like supporting a YouTube creator you like on a funding website like Ko-Fi (or that other one that starts with a P), you don’t pay to watch their content, you pay because you enjoy their content and want them to get better at it, and you get some freebies in return that never feel necessary for those who can’t afford or don’t want to spend money on them.
It’s also why on Bandcamp, you can choose to pay more than the asking price for a song/album if you really feel like it. You never need to, but you can because you care about the artist’s work.
FOSS can really benefit a lot from voluntary donations, especially since making software (especially good software) and maintaining it costs money. This is especially the case for a website that relies on maintaining servers and instances.
I know the BBC has made a Mastodon instance as a test some time ago. If only other broadcasters did something like that.
I meant that I thought the garbage situation in my country was bad enough, I didn’t expect something worse.
Good job. Also, the fact that they couldn’t just, idk, play one of his past performances and using that for the final instead of pretending he never even existed is a bit weird.
Not really a thing a own, but definitely something I encounter a lot. It’s an instrument you often hear in classical music, and sometimes ballads, and even rock tracks. A lot of the ancient cartoons used it as well. It scared me as a kid, and I still feel physically uncomfortable every time I hear it.
It’s called a timpano, plural: timpani. It doesn’t really elevate a track at all for me, it just makes it more frightening.
I would guess a lot.
