Not to mention the current American political climate was started in the mid 90’s by Newt Gingrich. He created the philosophy of “party before country,” along with the launch of 24/7 news networks, which is largely responsible for the mess you see today. ⁸ It’s going to take the same amount of time that started this mess to reverse it.
PS: Let’s not forget about the “my way, or the highway” generation, Boomers. Once most of them are out of office we’ll start to see the trend reverse.

Netflix can’t implement three different changes to its business model and then cherry pick one of those changes as the reason for the increased revenue.

Cool, but that analogy doesn’t work with how companies are valued.
The only thing that matters to the stock market is growth. It doesn’t matter how you get there (most of the time), as long as you’re posting positive numbers and your outlook looks good.
Not me fam, the less I have to do, the better. Amazon shipments literally save me 2-3 hours a week from not having to go to the store.

My enormous eletric vehicle (plug-in Rav4) is powered from my home solar panel system, and I use it to transport my dogs to the park a couple of times a week.

It was fairly inexpensive before the pandemic. But since it’s been a nightmare of price gouging.
It’s also one of those hobbies where buying one thing leads down a rabbit hole of spending.
I don’t feel like contributing for free to some portal run by a private company.
100%!!! The only thing I did differently was deleting all my usernames. I’m not contributing to all Reddit’s ad tracking, AI training, privacy invading nonsense.
I still go back to my favorite subs (r/gme_meltdown and r/buttcoin) to read only, but that’s it. Also there’s still tons of active BB boards (not on social media) for all my niche hobbies, soI really don’t have a reason to.
I’m not participating in that dumpster fire ever again. At best I’ll rip content from Reddit to post here on Lemmy.
