Lemmy Shitpost@lemmy.world•Don't fix the problem just change the parameters
4·1 year agoSeriously! I’m absolutely baffled by the comments here talking about how analog clocks are somehow this bizarre anarchism from the distant past that is just sooooooo difficult to understand. Wtf has been going on over there??

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What was hacking like in the '80s and '90s?
9·1 year ago“Draper heard about the whistle from other phreakers. The whistle easily played at 2600Hz, the perfect tone to, in Apple Inc. [co-founder Steve Wozniak’s words], “seize a phone line.”
Huh, I had always wondered why the hacking magazine was called 2600. Guess that explains it, neat!

cats@lemmy.world•This is Odin. Odin won't let me touch him. When I get close he does flips and runs around.
10·1 year agoWell yeah. You gotta creep up on him while he’s Odinsleeping.
This had my wife knocking on the door and asking why I was laughing in the bathroom.

31·1 year agoManual ordering of images in albums is an absolute must before I adopt any image management system. It’s wierd to me that seemingly none of the FOSS systems support it (considering that most of us are datahoading control freaks).

Oof, this works on several levels, considering his childhood. 😬

3·2 years agoSame here! This morning’s hangover, as just one example, 100% attributable to Covid! Definitely not the decision to have highballs #5-8 last night.

2·2 years agoI just spun up Wallabag on my server the other day to replace Omnivore. Im going to take a look at this, but does anyone have experience or thoughts on how this compares? I’m not so deep into it yet that I couldn’t switch to Linkwarden if it’s better.
My main uses would be archiving articles and highlighting passages.

11·2 years agoThere he is! Hey, big shooter!
I remember having this conversation with my mom when I was young and saying something like, “Well that’s great then, this is an easy win. Scientists should be able to examine them and confirm the change and then we know what the Bible is telling us is true,” and she replied that that’s not how faith works. And I was dumbfounded and like, “But… it would be so easy…”
And that lesson of how willfully choosing ignorance is somehow something to be valued was a key turning point in my waking up to the bullshit of religion. Thanks for coming to my TED talk.

13·2 years agoSame. I’m fucking furious. I specifically chose it over something like Readwise in order to stay open source. Ugh.
Snowy has the right idea in this picture.

Listen up Bart, you dumb fuck. If you willingly cede all this creation to the LLM then the last generation of fucking people with expertise are the ones working now! Go down this road and It dies with them.
Because who’s going to bother to learn code when it’s all brain dead chodes like you running the show and telling everyone to hand over the reins…. Oh but of course we’re still the one at fault if something goes wrong because we’re the manager and “Not only are you responsible for the work getting done, you also now own how it gets done.”
Holy fucking Christ, I don’t know if I ever ever gone 180 on an organization as quickly as I have on this one over the past week.
