A lot of it has to do with the type of folks who were in the initial Lemmy wave; generally a crowd that is more familiar with linux distros than the tuck rule. Not necessarily a bad thing, just a comment on the interests of the type of folks who were more apt to leave Reddit for another platform. Mainstream sports attract a mainstream audience, whom (on the whole) are more likely to stick to a mainstream website. Lemmy will grow but it took years before some of those communities grew to the size they are on Reddit, and it happened then without a comparable mainstream competitor.
It’s actually because most rear view mirrors aren’t detachable.

A whole bag?
Inertia is a hell of a thing to try and overcome. It’s a big deal for most companies to change out an important piece of software, let alone an entire OS and everything that comes with it. It could happen one day, I just don’t expect to see it.
The idea isn’t to be hyper specialized to a specific task. It’s to be hyper generalized to fit into spots already being filled by human workers. The goal is for the machine to be placed in the role of a paid human worker without the need to specialize anything else in the environment, a drop-in automation solution.
