  • I’m sorry dude. That all just sucks.

If I can offer a path of thought, it sounds a bit like you’re punishing yourself for being happy. It sounds like you have sort of a duality… You remember Christmas being a happy time with a lot of togetherness and love. And you also remember that it is the time when you heard this devastating news.

You might sit and try to sort that out… Both of those things in your brain at the same time are certain to drive anyone a bit mad.

But you don’t have to punish yourself for being happy sometimes. It really sounds like you have a big case of survivor’s guilt. There are pathways through that grief that may allow you to be happy and also honor the memory of a dear friend.

There’s no “right” answer, just an answer that’s right for you. You might consider talking to someone to help you unwind this ball of thoughts. Perhaps on the other side is something you can do every holiday in honor of your friend to help pay him back by paying it forward. While he’s not here, maybe you could do something extra to spread Christmas cheer on his behalf. There’s a hole in the world where he used to be - you could potentially help fill that.

It won’t be easy, but I’d encourage you to walk along the path of those thoughts and see if you can find some peace.

I wish you luck, whatever you decide to do.

  • Personally, I had to stop watching after a few episodes. The writing is just awful.

It’s a lot of telling, not showing. And because of the poor writing, the actors suffer. There’s not many good ways to deliver poorly written lines.

The changes they made might be logical, but the execution was poor. At least in the episodes I watched, it’s like every character has to say exactly what they are feeling, and they do the whole “so what’s the plan again” trope to remind the audience of what’s going on way too often.

Sokka’s character arc in season 1 was kinda botched… He was misogynistic in the original on purpose… And then got his ass absolutely handed to him by the Kyoshi warriors and it was a good moment. In this one they seemed afraid to hit the misogyny, so the moment was kinda lost, and the character development was flat.

There’s just a lot is missteps, in my opinion, but the source is the writing. I don’t think the acting is good, but it’s because of the writing, not the actors.

  • I heard “carved my name into his legacy” instead of “leather seats” in Before He Cheats.

Liked the idea that the truck was this bozos legacy. Considering the line prior is “I dug my key into the side of his pretty little souped up four wheel drive” - I thought she keyed her name into the side and that sounded awesome.

  • I mean you’re not entirely wrong, but you’re a little wrong. Just because they added levels later doesn’t mean you were correct… These games have road maps, and they don’t quickly change gears. There’s math and analytics that go into all of it.

I think you’re stretching when you say “around a few people”. There’s more money in 10,000 people spending a bit than 10 spending a ton. It’s a gradient. The top 10 spend a lot, but not enough to morph your road map for. Especially when the companies own multiple properties. Better to get them transitioned to a new game within your umbrella than disrupt the entire content road map.

There’s also far worse stuff than that and way harsher criticisms. You’re getting closer with the “changing the prices” bit, but it’s even worse than that, imo.

It’s the reason I left working at one of them as a data analyst. I’m not speaking in generalities or that interested in debating here… I know precisely how the calculations for these types of things are done because I used to be on the team that did them.

Not this game, but a different one. The whole industry operates very similarly.

  • I think you’re applying your own viewpoint here to the general public.

I don’t enjoy wrestling. I also don’t enjoy reality TV, teen dramas, horror shows, or European Football. But that doesn’t mean they don’t have value.

If TV needs to provide some infallible, logical benefit to be worth something, then every show is in trouble. It’s practically all made up stories about nothing that matters.

This is one of the narrow times that “the customer is always right” applies correctly. It doesn’t matter if it’s “good” by any one person’s definition. If people watch, it has value.

I’d pay good money to see high quality Starcraft 2 tournaments on TV. I doubt many other people would. That’s how value is determined.
