I agree in regards to whites only spaces, but men’s only spaces have apolitical reasons to exist (just as not all of the reasons for women’s only spaces to exist are political.) The experience of being male is just different and sometimes some people just need space to discuss.

I just think the nature of how Lemmy came about and who created it means that it’s mostly used by very serious people worried about the state of the world.

I swear some people think Westerners expressing any interest in anything Asian at all ever, or thinking an Asian country does something better than their own, is orientalism.

I honestly feel like Lemmy got considerably less vitriolic toward Americans after the election.

I used to think Lemmy was too insignificant for Russian influents, but I’m not sure anymore.

I could say I still run my 2014 (or 15, I don’t remember) PC, but it’s Ship of Theseus’d at this point, the only OG parts left are the CPU, PSU, case, and mobo.

It really does feel like online communities get more relentlessly xenophobic when they have more Europeans. It just seems like a lot of you can’t get by without mentioning where someone’s from. Like, no, someone not seeing the value in retro computing doesn’t say anything about “the intelligence of the average Scot.” And if you can’t tell where they’re from, American by default.

Good. Living in a super power seems to suck period, because super powers care about ideology and power, not people. Do we need “hyper?”

If we could internalize the notion that real patriotism is the drive to create a better tomorrow for the people instead of blind conservative hatred of the unfamiliar we could do so much good.
