For me the first stop is graphics is always seeing if they offer the ability to turn TAA off.

Dude, same happened to me. One guy threw the box of food he asked me to give him in a bush because he didn’t like Italian. Another told me to go to an atm for him. The last time I gave someone money they had me absolutely convinced that they needed $10 for the bus ride home. Before I even put my wallet away he was saying the same thing to the next guy.

Decided to stop that and donate to charity instead, even though money was tight. After my $20 donation they flooded my mailbox asking for more donations. They even sent me $5 with the message “This $5 could save a life!” So sick of being made into a fool for wanting to help.

If I were convinced a person truly needed help I could provide, I would straight up be willing to give them at least $1000. I simply don’t trust the pleas any more. Have to keep it limited to chance encounters with everyday people.

There’s a soda machine in seattle on the sidewalk of some random street not near any store, that someone stocks with random cans of whatever. Stuff I would have bet money doesn’t exist, sometimes. Never heard anyone mention it, but when I brought it up they were like “oh yeah that haunted vending machine.”

I think that’s one of the things that bothered me most. My manager was standing right there about 30 feet away, but the customers were directing all of their anger at me, by choice. One would think a rational person would understand where to direct that anger, but I’m increasingly convinced every year that rational people don’t exist.

I remember checking groceries at frankly unprecedented speed while being a polite as possible, but one guy started yelling names at me from five or so people back. I decided to ignore him and continue serving my current customer with a smile and he yelled “Stop smiling!”. This was so shocking to me that I looked at the other customers in line to share a “Can you believe this guy?” moment to find them all nodding along in angry agreement.

I didn’t even need that job. I’m so angry at my naive younger self for not quitting on the spot and making sure all of them knew exactly why.

They would certainly need more checkout people, but speaking from grocery cashier experience they wouldn’t necessarily have them. I remember my manager’s indifference as I was the only one to show up on Thanksgiving and there were literally 30 people in my line.

I was once told “Now I never want to hear about a raise again.” like the sub-inflation raise was enough to cover the rest of my time there and the three years of no raises preceding it.

I was shocked the first time I had vacation days expire without any kind of notification that I had miscalculated, and there was no payout or anything for the lost hours. I mean, the vacation days are part of the negotiated reimbursement for work. The deal is I give my time doing whatever I’m asked, and in return they give me money and time off. They shouldn’t be able to not give it to me because my napkin math was wrong.

To me it is no different than if you were paid by physical check, and if you didn’t pick up your check fast enough they threw it away and didn’t pay you. If I hadn’t already been radicalized, this would have put me over the edge.

To be honest I regret spending so much time earning money and buying so many cars. It would have been more fun riding around in a stolen piece of trash robbing liquor stores with a friend than grinding the bank heist over and over.

A long time ago my dad bought a full blown surround sound set-up, and I got so tired of not being able to hear that I spent days fiddling with the settings to no effect. Went online to do deep dive research and people just kind of hand-waived with a generic “buy a better setup and try different settings”. Completely gave up on good audio and leaned into the subtitle life.

Maybe if someday I could afford a bigger place I’ll try again. I did get some high quality speakers for my PC, but the years of disappointment lowered my standards so much that I didn’t even notice the left speaker was off because I didn’t slot the copper wires correctly for many months.

It’s a quick-draw stance to minimize motion, I believe.

Good point, but it’s still an annoying meme format because of the nonsensical double negative on nobody saying nothing.

I didn’t listen to much music for the better part of a decade, mostly because I wasn’t driving, then it occurred to me one day that I could start streaming it during a lot of the stuff I do. Probably doubled how much music knowledge I had in two years.

One time a friend and I (both in IT at the time) tried absolutely everything to fix a bizarre computer problem, then he told me to literally pull the hard drive completely out if the case and sit unplugged overnight before putting it back in. For some reason that worked, even though unplugging everything and plugging it right back in did nothing. Asked him why and he said “No idea, I was desperate.”

I saw a road sign the other day with a very detailed horse on it, and it distracted me for a second thinking “What the hell is up with that sign? Are there wild horses here? Is there a horse crossing up ahead? We’re in the middle of the city!” So I almost missed the woman leading a horse out into the road from behind a dense bush right behind the sign, not checking for traffic at all.

Probably would have been safer without the sign.

Interesting, I guess in 1994 it would make sense to redraw the guy instead of copying the asset over in Illustrator like you would present day.
