I ended up ordering a VF-VS1 VIOFO VS1 mini. It seemed low-hassle, and I’m happy with audio + front video.
I’m a systems librarian in an academic library. I moved over the Lemmy after Rexxit 2023. I’ve had an account on sdf.org since 2009 (under a different username), and so I chose this instance out of a sense of nostalgia. I do all sorts of fiber arts (knitting, cross stitch, sewing) and love dogs.

I’ll probably go the long-cable route. It’s a 2008 car, so I’m not winning any style points anyway. I’ll ask my mechanic if they could hardwire it next time I’m in.
Thanks!
I hadn’t thought of mounting behind the mirror and running wiring along the edge of the window. That makes sense, thank you. I’ll take a look at your suggestion. 😊
I’m mostly worried about wiring and having a distraction in my field of view, so mounting behind the rear-view mirror might work. I already have a parking tag there, but there might be space for both. Thanks!
I thought about a mobile app, but something that consistently records is better than relying on my faulty memory.
I’ll take a look at 70mai, thanks.
Online glasses places are pretty cheap and good quality, if you know your pupillary distance and your prescription isn’t complicated. ⭐Encouragement⭐
Thanks :) I’m probably a bit wary after by watching friends jump through hoops to move to Japan with their pup. Japan has many hoops because they’re rabies-free, which, I didn’t think Europe has the same concern.
My pup is also 16, so sadly I won’t have to worry about him forever.
Good question. It might shake out differently for eBay and Facebook because they make it clearer that you’re buying from an individual or store. I don’t think Facebook even takes a cut.
I’m trying! I’m working towards proving I’m Polish-by-descent, then I’ll be able to hold an EU passport. It’s slow going.
And in the mean time, I’m in a trans-friendly state, can pass as cis and hetero, and I’m white. I have a go bag and a US passport that matches my birth gender. My next steps are improving my food stores to protect against tariff impacts.
The only things that tie me to this country are my friends (who are also looking into exit plans and whom I talk to online more than in person) and my dog (I imagine moving to a new country with a dog is even harder than finding an apartment with a dog). Oh, and I really love my job and my coworkers, but my job might go away with all of the societal upset.
Same up in Connecticut. I have so many crappy “reusable” plastic bags from Target pickup orders during the height of the pandemic. I can’t bring myself to get rid of them because they’re “reusable”, so I use them to hold donations for the thrift store and get rid of them that way. I also use them as packing material.
I have other, nicer bags I use when I go to shopping.
Things must have changed since I was a kid in the US. I remember being told to start walking when my ride home fell through. They wouldn’t let me use a phone to call for another ride (pre cell phone). The teacher did ask if I knew how to get home and I did, but the only route I knew was along the high way.
That happened a few times.
Thanks. My ancestors avoided WWI and WWII by emigrating. I can’t judge them for that, so it feels fair to give myself the same option.
I really don’t know. Me personally, I’m pursuing citizenship in an EU country so I can at least have an exit strategy other than “drive to Canada and hope they let me in”. Other than that, I’m active in my union and I talk with my neighbors. I walk my dog and am visibly a Nice Normal Person who happens to be Queer.
It’s scary being queer here, so I might tone that down a bit as I get more scared. Which is what They want, but, hey, I’m scared.

It wasn’t that uncommon at the time. Take a look at this 2005 study the US GAO did on the issue: Social Security Numbers: Federal and State Laws Restrict Use of SSNs, yet Gaps Remain Also, this news article on the trend.
So, how did you go about doing that? Did you pay a company to guide you through the process or what? TBH, I’m a bit intimidated by interacting with a foreign government potentially in Polish, a language I do not speak.
My college ID used to be my social security number, so maybe it was something like that? Iirc that’s no longer allowed in the US.
Similarly fuzzy! I think they mostly came from the “Kingdom of Galicia and Lodomeria” region of Poland. Some definitely have “Galicia” on their earlier census records, then later records for the same relatives say Poland. Other relatives waffle between Poland and Russia. t National borders are so fuzzy.
The other side of the family is from Appalachia since the 1800s, but sometimes can’t decide if they’re born in TN or KY because they were from a disputed region.
And that’s the true story of how I learned all my Polish ancestors came over before modern Poland was a thing, and thus didn’t have Polish citizenship to pass on.
That’s sounds wickedly retro-brilliant and I love it. Would it use full-size VHS tapes, or those dinky ones that fit into a full-size converter?
