The feet!
The feet!
Pff. You really think food grows on trees?
Um. Let’s say, it’s a good thing for us and earth’s space mechanics and weather that the moon is like it is right now.
Some say the earth would spin faster if the moon wasn’t there at all.
Not sure how big the effect of space mining could be on moon’s mass. To be fair I’m more concerned that someone will use the moon as a giant billboard some day. :)
astronomical
: D
It’s better than carving up the ocean floors or the usual opencast mining here on earth. And it could be an incentive to invest into space technology.
But there will be disadvantages too, which are invisible to us right now. I’m sure of it.
I looks like it’d like to tell something personal but it is feeling shy. Poor thing.

I believe chain letter is the word?
Joachimsthaller
Please don’t. One L is enough. …It is complicated: Joachimsthaler (Joachimstaler since the 1900s). Thank you. ;)
TIL that the original meaning of the word Taler is “from the valley” (Tal).
The pig belongs to all mankind!
Yes. The blind in the right eye symptom seems to be real. Sadly.
It doesn’t change anything about the compact verdict from my point of view. But this injustice feels unfair and people do not feel represented and protected by the state (with the known consequences). The state has the Gewaltmonopol (monopoly on the use of force). For me this implies, that the state has the duty to nvoke its rights equally, regardless of the side.
The Bundesverwaltungsgericht says no. And constitutional scholars state that one has to endure uncomfortable and ugly opinions (Freiheit Tag und Nacht aushalten, goes the saying, I heard.)
It is stated that hate speech and anti-constitutional tendencies are protected under free speech as long as they are not personal insults or Incitement to ethnic or racial hatred. The Bundesverwaltungsgericht came to the verdict, that compact didn’t do that, I guess? My last data point stems from a comment by Tilmann Steffen in die Zeit about the begin and the goals of the trial.
To be clear, I’m worried about the current up-rise of right wing parties and groups in Europe (and about the success of the politians who make these extremist statements their own, to gain influence). But I wouldn’t want to ignore constitutional rights to protect the constitution.
Assholes should be allowed to publish media, too.
For almost any topic there is a group who wants to ban it, because they don’t like it. Lets please everyone. And In the end there is nothing left.
I mean we can’t allow everything. But there needs to be a good reason, backed by a law and a judge’s verdict.
That abstraction layer is correct, I think.
The thing with abstraction layers is: they are made to simplify a context. This makes it easier to understand and to see correlations and processes. It also hides details of the picture.
As far as I know there are people in Russia who work for their own goals. Those bridges don’t collapse themselves and it takes someone to derail a train or sabotage a helicopter or provide intelligence about movements.
Yes. Most people just eat the propaganda or at least don’t act up to evade repression (if they would care enough to do so otherwise). That’s normal human behavior, it’s no Russian specialty. Can you think of a current critical situation which would need immediate wide-spread attention, but people tend to ignore it?
Meh. I don’t see much steering room for their course. It isn’t Russia by the way, it’s Putin and his regime.
Just a lengthy text to collect some of my thoughts.
I can’t think of any reason but the bomb if one has 60%+ Uran in bigger quantities and rockets with the ability to carry 2 tonne warheads. They did some steps on that road, it seems to me.
And there is that regime’s head with that one idea of an almight being that you have to please. And his will to cling to power in Iran no matter what. Makes you think if that guy seeks redemption in the next world in which case, destroying Israel and getting annihilated in return is the logical course. Or if he seeks to keep his power in this world which would forbid that. Or first one thing and then the other - he’s not the yougest anymore.
The regime in Iran shouldn’t be in place. But what action to take is for their people to decide. It’s hard to near impossible for the people of Iran to overthrow that regime. But that doesn’t legitimate an attack. (It wouldnt free the people or would it? Who would fill the void if the regime is gone?)
If I imagine myself on the opposite side of the table on Iran’s side, there is not much reason to trust the US and I would seek for ways to arm myself.
Also having the option of building the bomb is a bargaining chip for them. Even if you wouldn’t intend to go through with it.
And then there is the statement of the US secret service that Iran is not even close to the bomb. (Like Irak didn’t have WMD but it was the US’ casus belli for the war. Iran supported the US back then btw., but it didn’t help their relations.)
And then there is the chain of actions and events in favor of Israel (Hisbollah weakened, Syria’s regime overthrown and their air force destroyed) which lead to the opportunity to attack the now weakened Iran. Having those Israeli agents inside Iran and the attack plans in place tells me, that is has been planned for months or years. Same goes for the Hisbollah pagers.
I’m not in favour of any war - It didn’t help Afghanistan or Irak much, it only stirs unrest but doesn’t help the people. So sanctions against Israel would be the way to go. I don’t think Iran will have the A-bomb armed and ready soon. And I want Iran to have democratic or at least secular gouvernment, which can’t be achieved from the outside, only. But I’m sitting at the side line and have not much at stake here.
Exposing Jellyfin/ plex through routing or SNAT plus dyndns would be a cheap option.
As soon as one rents a VPS (to expose the selfhosted at home service through routing/ tunneling) it would cost at least 2€/ month?
I learned the term sovcit. Interesting concept, it isn’t mine though.
You sound angry because there are multiple point of views for a thing and I don’t agree with your pov. I think i get the gist of your reply. But without arguments this discussion is bound to go nowhere.
You say I’m wrong by using adblocking. You didn’t tell why.
Edit: this is not about me wanting you to take my view or wanting to be convinced by you. You may disagree or even despise me. That’s fine.
Everyone has to decide for himself what’s right and wrong and life with it. And maybe I have to rethink my decisions if there are aspects I didn’t take into account or if I lied to me to justify my decisions.
Umm… Maybe. Let’s take a look.
https://www.statista.com/statistics/267606/quarterly-revenue-of-google/:
In the first quarter of 2025, Google’s revenue amounted to over 89.52 billion U.S. dollars, up from the 79.97 billion U.S. dollars registered in the same quarter a year prior.
… They’ll survive.
I guess the content creators take the hit when users block ads or refuse to use premium.
Edit: your addendum is false. Technically YouTube freely delivers (answers http gets and posts), the user just refuses to watch all of their content or take part in the tracking. No broken windows or climbed fences.
Tripwire and auditd can monitor a filesystem and notify you about changes. I don’t know the tools myself, because i never needed them. Maybe these can give you a hint on the responsible service.
If you suspect a certain service to be responsible: what do the logs of the service say? If nothing: increase the loglevel to info or debug?
Sorry. No solution. Just ideas. Good luck.
