And then, since the people are eager to overthrow Musk, they decide to sign up with the aliens. Musk and his buddies are all dead/converted when the Church assumes control of the US in the late 2060s/early 2070s. And then they take over everything else by the start of the 22nd century.

The Church is Gilead if they favored Brave New World over 1984. And they’re a lot more stable, and rule a lot longer than Gilead, lasting until the 27th century at least.
