having been in combat, with electronic gear designed for the military, i can say this will be a million percent terrible. it’s gonna be too heavy (already they carry too much- i have degenerated discs as do many of my buds) and will break constantly. to say nothing of keeping it charged- who wants range anxiety in a combat situation.

now i will say that going to Iraq radicalized me against war and i filed as a conscientious objector, but back in those days right after 9/11 there wasn’t much of an antiwar movement.

bing or duck duck go, too. i just say googling because it sounds stupid as shit to say anything else. DDG is my default search engine. kagi isn’t much better, and comes with its own issues

honestly LLMs are about a thousand times more useful than Google at this point. Every week i try googling and get nothing but spam results.

for example just yesterday i was searching for how to reclaim some wasted space on one of my devices. so i searched on Google and tried 8 different pages that were ad-riddled hell holes.

i gave up and spent 10 seconds with an LLM and got the answer i needed. i will admit that i had to tell it to quit bullshitting me at one point but i got what i needed. and no ads.

it’s so funny to see people on lemmy who fell for cloud connected cameras. you’d think this group would be the last to fall for it, maybe not. i’ve even received them as gifts (very expensive ones) but i just threw it in the trash because that is better than anyone using it.
