  • Imagine something more valuable than your life. Every moment you think of a loved one being well you feel joy. When they are hurt you feel a physical pain in your chest. You would do anything for them. The world is no longer about you.

Looking from the outside that sounds like a very vulnerable and unattractive situation to be in. But I wouldn’t trade it for the world.

(Disclaimer: It’s still possible to hold unconditional love and betray that love in a self centric way, I have, but the above is how I would describe the ‘feeling’ of it)

  • So you’re saying you agree?

Walmart is absolutely a result of capitalism, those intricate supply chains are in place to make money. Maybe we could do it without a common way to track needs for a while, but would it adapt? Would the alternative resist corruption better? The invention of Money almost seems an inevitable consequence from one perspective.

I don’t think this answers the original question, but it’s an interesting side topic.

  • Start with Luke 21 …

He also saw a poor widow put in two very small copper coins. “Truly I tell you,” he said, “this poor widow has put in more than all the others.

Sounds… nice, poor people should give, right? Then read just before the unfortunate? chapter break at the end of Luke 20

“Beware of the teachers of the law. They like to walk around in flowing robes and love to be greeted with respect in the marketplaces and have the most important seats in the synagogues and the places of honor at banquets. They devour widows’ houses and for a show make lengthy prayers. These men will be punished most severely.”
