Sorry, I don’t recall the actual specifics now. I believe it was something like they made it a code violation to not have your home connected to the power grid and you just get fined and harassed until you “fix” it.

Yes, FL west coast.
I wasn’t allowed to go off grid in my previous home where I had solar installed either. There was also a hard cap on the amount of solar I was allowed to install. Both of these rules were put in place due to lobbying from the largest power company in the region (Duke Energy in my case). It totally sucks,
yeah, I had to resurrect an old phone to go to a concert last week. It’s possible I’ll never go to one again. I wouldn’t have bought the tickets had I known about that bullshit.
In case you’re curious, the Nokia flip phone I got my daughter is the Nokia 2780 Flip.
It no longer runs WhatsApp, actually. The new version of the OS (KaiOS which is a fork of the dead Firefox OS) broke compatibility and Meta apparently decided to not bother with supporting it.
It’s too early to call me out like that.
Funny enough, Nokia started making cheap flip phones and some others in that form factor again. My daughter asked to replace her smartphone with one of the flip phones. It was only $70, so I got her one. It’s build quality is what you would expect, but it works and has GPS at least.
Google can get fucked. I feel like there will be a nontrivial market for de-googled or older and unlocked Android phones after this. If they manage to kill off custom roms with their previous AOSP rug pull I’ll go back to using a (subpar) Linux phone or maybe even one of those cheap flip phones.
For real, this just further cemented me not wanting to buy any new Intel devices.
When I was 18 and my parents moved away, I only had $30 for food that first month. I was able to get ramen for 10/$1 and it got me through. It took me many years to be able to enjoy ramen after I was able to afford not being forced to eat it.
This kid is straight up hacking time. He better watch out for laser raptors.
Maybe I misunderstood the prompt, I wasn’t taking it that we’d have no nationality at all. Generally speaking, most pieces of land tend to be claimed by a nation with maybe Antarctica as an exception. Alright then I guess I’d need to add a “desperately try to acquire citizenship or get my current boss to pay me under the table” step :)
Nice. I also wanted a DAP that didn’t run Android and I ended with the fun and ultra gimmicky Mixxtape (you can use the device itself as a cassette tape). It was only $60-ish, so don’t expect top tier build quality or interface, but I am pretty happy with it.
It’s still the best Windows music app. It is one of the only things I miss from Windows.
“Second brain” is a term that has been around a while, but it does get used by a lot of people that are all in on AI these days so i totally see your skepticism. My issues with these second brain/knowledge base/etc tools is that I never end up going back to them to actually look up knowledge. Maybe that is why the AI people are all over it, because most people never use the actually notes they make. Either way, I found it best to just stop using the tools or leave myself semi-structured text notes with good file names.
I work from home, so I guess I can stop paying taxes? It’s not like I was thinking I’d get a real retirement anyway.
No, we shouldn’t remove it ffs.
Stay on GrapheneOS as long as I can, then look for an alternative OS like trying Linux phones again and maybe they will be ready for prime time by then (hope springs eternal and all that).
