Win+X is also great. Especially since the Start Menu doesn’t allow for quick shutdown commands since Win 8.
I think that’s being a bit unfair to Windows. Some of its keyboard shortcuts are stupid, but it does have them. When it doesn’t, the problem is the application.
I am not upset in the slightest. Maybe I should have made that clear. By all means voice away! It’s just like I said, Windows benefits heavily from us learning its quirks when we had the time and patience to do so, and with much lower standards than today. The comparison doesn’t seem all that helpful as a result.
Mounting a network share is beyond the usage scope of the DAU you describe. They need a functional default desktop environment, working standard drivers for their standard hardware, and a browser. That’s pretty much it.
And let’s not pretend there’s anything intuitive about Windows distinguishing between accessing a network share, and mounting it as a virtual drive. This is just the staying power of “whatever I’m used to from an age when I had the curiosity and patience to figure stuff out”.
Honestly the bigger factor is social cohesion and combating criminogenic factors. While far from perfect, European societies are doing much better here than a proudly hyper-individualist US.
Does no one use the Subscription page anymore? Are people even aware of its existence at this point?
YT assumes you’re always binge-watching. Which people often are apparently.
Just use your subscription tab, like we did in the olden days.
Also culture war bullshit to keep people distracted and divided.
I wish I had that kind of faith in our society. A lot of people are still conservative. The majority lacks any kind of class consciousness, and would really prefer the global western hegemony to keep trucking on unchanged for a few more generations.
The progressive movement is real and has great people in it. I love the conversations I’ve been having with people for the past decade. But it’s a bubble that includes maybe 5-8% of the population. Enough to build solidarity at least around population centers, not enough to sweep an election.
We have both actually, that’s why we get two votes. It’s still fptp but with a hotfix for proportionality applied.
Droid-ify is also great.
WTF is that last search result though 🫣
No kidding. Why else would it be the result of an attempted update. But thanks for the continued condescension.
Can we perhaps stop pretending that it’s the most normal thing on earth to run an update and get back “hm yeah so there’s an issue, to fix it you’re gonna have to uninstall your entire GUI and half of your core operating system”, and it’s simply user error to be irritated by that in any way.
I did. It told me I needed to uninstall them. 🤐
That’s like saying “black people can use the N-word (as an in-group term), so I can too (as an insult)”.
You really don’t see the difference?
The vast, vast majority of people don’t quit their job or their employer, but their boss and coworkers.
Don’t underestimate how much healthy relationships at work matter when you spend so much of your time there. Yes, in tech jobs as well. So stick with IT if you like it, but don’t stick around in a bad environment. Especially if you plan to have a family in X years, because then it gets a lot harder and riskier to jump ship and change your situation.
I think you misread my comment. I didn’t call you a fascist, I simply called out two points where your comparison falls flat.
Thanks for the writeup. It helps to know where to look to make an informed decision, when I finally have the time to sit down and de-google.
Yeah I never doubted you’d have a reason to dismiss being called out like that. Getting your feelings hurt invalidates everything else. I feel like I’m talking to myself from 10 years ago.
You don’t have to take it from me. If you’re a student of history, maybe start with Umberto Eco. He knew a thing or two about fascism, I’ve heard.
The biggest mistake we can make is to assume it can’t happen again.
Unfortunately he’s following the playbook of people who do know how to do things and accomplish goals. And they were much better prepared this time than in 2016.
