Of course no one wants to pay them… But they filter out the toxicity, and pay with their sanity, to make these spaces even enjoyable and usable for us normal people.

I mean, the problem with that is how to handle the federation.

I could just make an instance and have it tell all the other instances that I donated 18,360 awards to a single comment, and they couldn’t tell if that was legitimate or not.

      • Everyone gonna hate this but their is an excellent solution. All lemmy actors have a public Monero receive address associated (ideally through did allowing portability across instances). A lemmy gold activity carries a proof of transaction and each instance checks against the Monero blockchain to validate transaction authenticity.

Now to preemptively defend Monero. No it not destroying the environment its more environmentally friendly than tradition banking. No the fees are not extremes its cheaper than all payment processors. No its not slow bitcoin is slow. No its not a shitcoin scam its the only crypto currency who’s value is backed by real world goods and services (thanks onion marketplaces). Yes it actually private and anonymous unlike all other crypto. No it won’t get worse with more users it has dynamic block sizes. No it doesn’t support nfts all tokens are truly fungible due to real anonymity.

Besides the Lemmy Gold idea, I would also like it if users could pay to send me various other emoji. Maybe have a private Lemmy Gold board so that it’s worth the money?
