Twitter’s age verification in the EU literally needed ur ID or a picture of ur face really sounds like a privacy issue so I figured I could post this here. At the moment I’ve been using a vpn but since it’s literally the only reason why I use one I was curious if there was any other way to do so that would be free

What people? Your friends or random strangers that you follow? If friends, help them move, you know, if mastodon is too much for them try Bluesky, it’s not the best but at least it’s a good direction. If ranom people, well, just make the jump, you will find other random people elsewhere and you will have much higher chance they are not bots.

That seems weird to me because I’ve never used stuff like twitter or instagram to have a public facing profile to talk to friends.

Stuff like discord or whatsapp made more sense for that which isn’t great either. But, the concept of using public profiles and public posts between people you actually know sketched me out. That’s something I’ve opted out of doing despite giving into stuff like discord.

i mean my profile isn’t my straight up IRL, and the only ppl who knows me IRL and online are ppl I trust enough for that, I ain’t gonna show my online identity to an IRL I don’t trust enough. Cuz of where I used to live i took an habit of I making sure to separate my online and IRL identity

I just feel it is more secure to keep it entirely to message apps when it comes to communicating with people you know.

Think that’s why I’ve never seen social media like twitter as vital enough to go through the trouble of verifying.

Figure Elon is the type of guy to read through everyones private messages too, so that’s another reason.

You have a strange use case for extwitter man. Not judging. My only advice, friends will understand you wanting to use something less toxic. I did this with signal, I explained how uncomfortable whatsapp made me and why I am deleting it and where we can stay in touch. Some installed signal just to talk to me. And those who didn’t, well, I guess we weren’t as close and that was fine for me. One person wanted to stay in touch but explained why not signal and with her we are using the encrypted conversation on telegram. See, when people really want to stay in touch, they will.

She did not want yet another messenger. People are fed with having to have multiple applications for everything. And she already had telegram along with wa.

All I’m seeing is excuses to stay on the nazi platform. You have agency, you know that right?

Unfortunately the best option is to not use these type of sites, especially if they are asking for identification or personal information. The web worked well enough for years with people just using usernames.

Personally when friends or family ask me why I not on a specific platform my response is usually because of the algorithmic feeds. This gets the conversation going where sometimes I get someone to actually switch.

The second best option if you really need to lurk on sites like this is using your “porn star name”. If you happen to know someone that makes fake ids, get one made using your alternative online identity and use that for when a website ask for it. You might even be able to use a AI image generator to produce something, or depending on your Photoshop skills you could go that route.

You could use a fake image from something like thispersondoesnotexist. Or did they already patch that? I don’t use Twitter so IDK if they do more than just face check.
