I’m bored… The world feels flat for a 2020 release (especially after games like GTA V and red dead, hell even assassin’s creed, the RPG ones) and I don’t like the characters, I can’t even remember their names, I didn’t cared when the big guy died, apparently it was a big moment for the people that played this and I’m like 🤷🏽 whatever…

Going back to Tekken and WWE 2k

I had a similar experience tbh. Never played on release, got it a few months ago with Phantom Liberty, really had to push myself through the first “act” which honestly felt like all preamble. Jackie never felt particularly believable to me as a character, he was honestly kinda annoying with how eager he was and the “one more job and we’re out” trope, then I was clearly supposed to have grown attached because of a montage of our adventures I didn’t get to experience?

I think that’s fine, it’s not for everyone. Gaming has this weird thing that we all have to agree that this game is amazing and this one is trash. I don’t like that way of thinking. Does everyone like the same movies or books?

Personally I love Cyberpunk, it’s probably the second best game I’ve ever played in my book (behind RDR2). I think it’s incredibly involved, I love getting lost in the world.

That’s me though. Personally I don’t like Tekken or WWE. I just don’t find any joy in them. That doesn’t mean they’re bad, they’re just not my style.

So, enjoy what you enjoy! Don’t feel bad for liking something or not liking it! People are weird, and we like different things. As long as you aren’t bashing on people who do like something, we’re all good.

Now I’m going to go back to playing Cities Skylines 2…

I think cyberpunk is bad though. Way below of what those dudes promised, it was so bad that they had to change the marketing (oh is not an RPG!, is a open world action game now) even they knew the game felt short. The fact a game like GTA V and RDR2 feels more like an RPG says it all

Seriously the RPG mechanic feel so undercooked. Are almost annoying and yet imperceptible

You realise nobody is forced to feel the way you do right? Also, I’m sorry but there’s so much objectively trash and mediocre media… You CAN say that a book, movie or game is trash.

Their entire post seems to have been made to argue. Luckily Lemmy isn’t reddit, some may argue but a lot of people here are friendly, the mud slinging seems like a waste of time to me.

Edit - happy first comment! Glad you’re here with us!

What’s your problem? You act like I’m insulting you or something, I didn’t do shit to you. I’m just explaining why your previous comment is not accurate that’s it.

You come off as antagonistic. I will give you the benefit of the doubt, maybe you genuinely aren’t trying to, but the way you are writing is in a way that feels like you’re picking a fight, which I have no interest in.

Take this last comment. “What’s your problem” is extremely antagonistic. “I didn’t do shit to you” is another example. You aren’t just explaining, that’s the frustrating point. Your point is valid and we could have had an interesting conversation about it, but the way it feels like you want to just argue and the jabs at me make me not want to interact with you.

So, this is a friendly response explaining how I felt when reading your comments. Looking at the votes, I’m not the only one. I’d love to have good conversations, but not arguing. So when I see it, I just ignore it.

I had fun but after the botched launch I had absolutely no expectations other than “cool setting”. I enjoyed it on my first playthrough but haven’t yet done another.

I never played it back then myself.

Got it last Christmas and fell in love with it pretty immediately. 75% through my third play now. Trying out different story options, attitudes, combat styles.

I don’t know how many replays I’ll get out of. Probably be a once per year or so option in the future.

I might get ripped apart for this but I feel the same way about bg3.

Like, I just do not care about this world or its outcomes. Its a modern release and the world feels more static and flat than anything I’ve played in 10 years. Hell I beat Moon Well before I played bg3 and it felt like a more vibrant, and dynamic world; and you can sure af bet I was invested in rescuing those fucking cats in cages. Fuck that ostrich.

Maybe its a AAA game/ big studio syndrome thing? Like, “too big to fail” / “design & story by committee” that tilts towards gimmicks and tropes and doesn’t focus on just, building a complex world for me to engage with?

I also didn’t care for bg3, having played previous Larian games, esp the Divinity Original Sin games, I thought the D&D rules are a step backward, and not fun in a video game. having to constantly rest, nerfing of environmental effects and offensive items (vs their other games), and I didn’t care about the story (but I never do so that’s fine I guess). I’m glad they aren’t developing sequels. but also hopefully it printed money for them so they can do great on their next game, and hopefully it gets more folks interested in their games generally.

I know it’s a lot of folks game of the year, but I just don’t get it. It was boring, less good Divinity for me. But whatever, people loved it and I’m glad it’s successful for them.

I think you meant Animal Well, and that game was amazing, definitely my game of the year.

Yeah it was my first Larian game. I thought it was very “true” to the D&D system and frankly, I think that explains much of the stiffness that you describe. Like, its a fine system for a game made in maybe… 1998? Maybe even 2008? But it felt very, very dated. Like, a sword does 1d8 but literally being fire only does 1d4? And like, idk, shields and armor bonuses that are not at all in line with how these things would actually behave; it requires more suspension of disbelief than I can muster.

For an open world RPG, it really really doesn’t play like one. I think I would have preferred a nice big open world, maybe I get dropped into some where as a level 1 peon, based on race/ alignment and I have to go through the process of “becoming” my class? And same with my companions. If they are level 1 like me starting out, they should have basically NO backstory.

I do however enjoy the game very much overall. I’m doing a second play though on heroic because it was just far too easy on the other modes.

BG3 was the first “impatient gamer” purchase I made in a very long time. I’ll typically wait for things to be 3-5 years old before I purchase. I’m not disappointment per-se, but honestly, I feel like it should be much, much, much more polished for the price. But so much of that polish needs to be on the play system and the world, and if they are staying true to d&d, there is only so far they can take it.

And yes, I meant Animal Well. Definitely my game of the year so far.

I think that’s pretty valid. BG3 was a fun game that I had some good times with, but it wasn’t this outrageously good behemoth game-of-the-decade type experience for me.

I hate the fact that game won game of the year. Is better than mass effect at least? The gameplay looks kinda lame.
