Privacy@lemmy.ml•Child's School Using Electronic Hall Passes - USAEnglish
17·4 days agoOne idea for the bathrooms, is getting a doctor that knows your kids the most (most commonly that would be a family doctor, but if a kid has a reason to have a specialized doctor then go to that one) to get a signed letter that tells the school to give the kid(s) unrestricted access to the bathroom. Then give that to the school and the school basically has to do what the doctor says (because you or the doctor could put up a fight if they don’t).
Kids could also make the data useless by checking in to multiple places, or leaving it somewhere in the school (for example).
The full-size Blahaj is around $40 (there is a smaller version for around $15, but I didn’t see that until writing this comment), and Kramig is under $25 (around $5 from what I see).
If they don’t already have one, then a wireless mouse or keyboard. You may need to avoid the brand names to get under that price.
A shelf (like one for the countertop or wall or to put on floor) to put stuff on. A soft animal (like a kramig from IKEA). A rice cooker (who doesn’t like coming home with food ready).

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Why is it uncommon for kids on commuting to & from school in the US on their own?English
9·7 days agoThose of us whose kids can commute on our own, take it for granted.
Taking a real example (but not exactly where I live): 916 Clearview Dr in South Carolina has a nearby school that is a two-minute drive and about 16-minute walk. However, most of the way there doesn’t have any sidewalks, so kids can’t walk safely (which means there will be very few crossing guards), and the cars only have stop signs. Some of the areas that are passed are very run down and may have gang activity (which makes it unsafe for the kids). There might also not be any school buses as they could be considered too close, or the area doesn’t have the funding.
We also can’t forget about the parents as they may have a tight schedule and it’s better for them to drive (ensuring both the kids get to school, and they get to work).
Went out soon after the trick-or-treaters came out to go see what the neighbours display looks like at night. Luckily I don’t live right next to them.
Went to supermarkets to see how much halloween candy they have left, and if they’ve started discounting them… Looks like the shelves are still full (I can’t imagine how much stuff they have behind the scenes) and no discounts yet.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What news headline are you waiting for?English
30·7 days ago“White House confirms independent media reports that President Donald Trump has passed”
Or something like that, because we all know the white house won’t go out and say he has passed, other outlets will report it first, then at one point the white house will have to say it.
I got mine for free (or at least a discount, I don’t remember which), I trust Sony more (as a company) than OnePlus, it was easier for me to buy, and I’ve had it for a number of years so I don’t feel the need to replace it with a new one (as it still works).
The newest one also gives six years of security updates, so one can hang onto the phone for a longer time.

If you use GrapheneOS, updating to 2026102100 (or higher) will take care of this for you.
remove the active eMudhra ECDSA root certificate due to compromised intermediate certificates (Vanadium received the removal of this root certificate as an out-of-band component update via our servers when it was released for Chrome)
remove both legacy eMudhra root certificates (this leaves the heavily used active RSA root certificate as the only remaining one and we’re considering either removing it or disabling it by default despite other platforms not removing it at this time)

I believe the filter just hides the cookie banner (which I believe on many sites means you accept all), where consent-o-matic actually accepts & rejects according to your preferences.
Regarding why an update, as there are many sites that it doesn’t automatically accept/decline, and having an update will have it done automatically rather having to manually set.
