  • This is a desperate scare tactic and not necessarily a reflection of how most people here think. I live in Texas, and our airwaves have been so utterly saturated with anti-trans ads. I get the sense a lot of the people who used to be activated with this rhetoric are genuinely questioning why Republicans are only talking about this.

Rural folk feel the cost of gas and groceries even more acutely than city folk. When I drive through rural parts of Central Texas, where there used to be Trump signs everywhere, there are few to no signs supporting any Republicans. I could count on one hand the number of Paxton and Abbott signs I’ve seen on the roadside, but there are regularly Talarico and Hinojosa signs.

It feels like we’re approaching a cultural shift of some kind down here. Please, dear god, let’s have a cultural shift.

  • While this has changed, used to be you could look at the financials of a company and determine whether it was a reasonably good long-term investment, so you could pretty consistently build wealth with a diverse array of investments. With algorithmic trading down to the millisecond, much of this has gone out the window

  • As a boy, Frankenstein is interested in the works of alchemists such as Cornelius Agrippa, Paracelsus, and Albertus Magnus, and he longs to discover the fabled elixir of life. At the age of fifteen, he loses interest in both these pursuits and in science as a whole after he sees a tree destroyed by a lightning strike and a scientist explains the theory of electricity to him. It seems to him as if nothing can really be known about the world, and he instead devotes himself to studying mathematics, which he describes as “being built upon secure foundations.” However, at the University of Ingolstadt in Bavaria, Frankenstein develops a fondness for chemistry, and within two years, his commitment and scientific ability allow him to make discoveries that earn him admiration at the university. He then becomes curious about the nature of life and his studies lead him to a miraculous discovery that enables him to create life in inanimate matter.
