I work as a defense contractor, duh as I was in the Army and these are PISSSSS easy to get when you get out, and we got word that our contracts are gonna be not getting renewed so I’m looking at fast unemployment.

I specialize in IT, as it was my job in the Army, and got a few good spots. Every single job I applied to make me submit a resume and a CV and a reference sheet, and you think I was done?!

NO! Then I had to take some fucking personality questionnaires and for one I had to do a whole fucking like visual novel thing where you simulate dealing with customers! What the fuck?!

This is the job market now?! Why do I need to do this?! Can I not just show who I am in an interview!? Mind you, I have luck with these jobs as I got referred by an employee working there as I gave me “elevator speeches” to them, but still.

Applying to three jobs took me like all fucking day when it could have taken me minutes.

I’ve moved jobs roughly every 2.25 years. Each time I feel like I have to 1.5-3x the amount of applications I make to get a job

Nah it’s pretty fucking grim out there these days. When my job at the MSP ended I would have put out -50 or so applications. Largely ignoring any that tried to take me to third party sites to fill out those absolute time waster quiz/assesments. Eventually got an interview which turned into an offer and an offer from a recruiter that found my resume and recruited for my current organisation. Consider myself very lucky. I don’t know if AI applications are shitting the process up but it seems shit for everyone out there.

I never bother with any applications that require quizzes/assessment/videos because unless they state their pay range, you’re putting in more work and they likely will just ghost you like the others. Fuck em. Good to hear you’re staying positive, definitely the better mindset to have for it.

no. it was better yesterday and it’ll be worse tomorrow… and then even more so the day after that. it will never be as ‘easy’ again as it was today.
