Elon has never been an engineer, so let’s set the record straight. He has nothing to do with the quality of Teslas. Any moron who thinks Elon is a good engineer, when he has zero engineering experience nor, to my knowledge any engineering education, immediately loses all respect in my eyes.
No no no, he is an engineer, designer, CEO of three companies, CTO of a company, father of 14, avid computer gamer, ketamine addict, Nazi aficionado, and Zombie Twitter poster extraordinaire with the sickest memes in the galaxy!
Don’t get jealous because he works at least 70 hours a day. You just wished you could be that productive. /s
Literally, every time Musk says anything in your own field (mine are UX design and programming), you immediately realise he’s a dumbass who knows nothing about anything and is literally bullshitting his way to the top, paraphrasing smarter people without understanding what he’s saying, and just declaring himself a genius.
Thankfully I learnt this very early because he bullshitted about my field pretty early on. Everyone seems to get there eventually, the more industries he claims expertise in.
Ain’t it most of the billionaires? They just know how to tell big lies so that they can earn more money.
When questioned about Twitter, he didn’t even know the difference between front-end and back-end on coding. He has done code before at Ebay (it was all re-written by others before deployment), but he should know that and yet it is completely lost on him.
I’m not convinced he coded at eBay. I think he did some markup, which was not coding. That feels like code to someone who doesn’t know what coding is.
that’s like me saying “you know I do a little coding myself” and the entirety of my experience is setting up a Geocities page in html in the 90s, setting my xanga background picture and music, and aliasing a few bash commands and setting up an update script.
tbf everyone at work thinks I’m a tech god because I spend 2 minutes clicking around menu options before calling IT and I wear glasses
Yeah that tracks. I didn’t pay that much attention to the details on that.
Musk was never any sort of engineer. He was just the one with daddy’s money there to take credit for the work of better people.
I think the cybertruck is the only thing hes ever had a involvement in creating. and you see how well that went.
everything else he just bought, kicked the original owners out, and gag ordered them, so he can take all the credit.
There is a very clear line you can see in their cars between the stuff that had the founders Eberhard and Tarpenning working on it, and the stuff that Musk as had a hand in. The original Roadster, and the S/Y/3/X range are all based on the original design and engineering team. Then you see the Musk lineup, Cybertruck, Semi, Cybertaxi, “Flying”-Roaster.
The desperation is starting to become very apparent, just waiting for the final merge between Tesla and Space X and to have the entire company renamed X.
Well, this academic still has enough respect for Elon to pay him for a blue checkmark…
His first mistake was thinking musk was a good engineer.
The only thing musk has ever done was buy or steal tech. He’s never had an original thought in his life.
Only cool thing he ever did was insist that the spacex engineers figure out to land vertically like ye olde sci fi rockets
Yes he has and they’re not gonna build them anymore
Elon Musk is not an engineer. You’d think an academic would be able to grasp this
When he rose to fame he was portrayed as an engineer genius, and EVERYONE lied about it. It’s not strange people believed it. It’s not normal for this to happen.
I’d argue that rich people being touted as genius in subjects they know very little about and perform fairly poorly at historically until they throw enough money at it and surround themselves with actual experts is actually the norm.
No, most do not pretend to be engineers
All of the public ones do try to pretend to be super smart scientists and engineers and health experts. Like, Bill Gates likes to pretend that he’s super interested in physics and that he wishes he could do more to contribute to the field, but that Epstein-associating childfucker is a fucking billionaire. He could literally hire the world’s leading physics experts and teachers to train himself in physics. He could become a fucking expert so fucking easily, but, to be fair, he’s probably too busy with child rapists to bother.
Every billionaire you see in the news tries to look like a genius instead of the lucky heartless monsters they actually are because they love being idolized instead of doing real fucking work.
They are sociopaths and that is obvious, but Elon the sly fuck pretended that his social ineptitude was because he was a genius engineer, and it was what everyone was instructed to say about him. If anything, a scientist has less time to research random celebrities. It’s not about intelligence. It’s not like a barrier that prevents deception like in the movies.
And Teslas are NOT well engineered cars.
And if you allow him to “engineer” a car, you end up with the Cyberstuck.
I don’t know, he has engineered one of the most amazing financial grifts I have ever seen.
Fundamentally, he should have been broke several times over now but somehow he manage to form and merge a few hundred companies over the course of 20 years in just the right way that it makes him still walk free. It cannot last forever but it has lasted WAY longer than it should have.
Funny, though, that this issue with cooling problems is a long known issue in all things space. This should be obvious to anyone who has seen the cooling fans (infrared radiator plates) of the ISS. And they try to be very, wery careful with creating waste heat.
Maybe Elon should ask someone who actually knows something about space instead of an AI. I mean, this guy has a f-ing company that sends rockets into space. Someone there must be capable to do an ELI5 on that topic, so even Elon can understand it.
He doesn’t want to understand it. He wants to break through it and some sleazy and/or desperate engineers are telling him everything he wants to hear. They understand that it’s impossible but they also understand that if they don’t cater to his fragile ego they’ll be looking for a new job and no job will ever pay more.
Elon legitimately believes that nothing is impossible because his entire life he’s been able to pay other people to fix his problems for him and he can’t handle the idea that he’s not the most special important smartest boy.
Unfortunately for him, ambition is all well and good but we obey the laws of physics in this universe.
The funny thing is I’m pretty sure he could have achieved a lot more with the space stuff if he wasn’t so deadset on grandstanding and picking up irrelevant bullshit.
Exactly, he actually kind of was heading in the right direction but when you end up mentally stuck at age 12 it will never be enouh.
I honestly think saying that Tesla’s are good cars is glazing him too much to be honest. They’re basically the iPhone of cars. That’s not an endorsement by the way that’s condemnation I fucking hate iphones. The best thing that Elon musk could be argued to have done is to make people realize that EVS are viable.
You’re totally allowed to hate iPhones (I’m not arguing otherwise), but iPhone hardware is way better built than Tesla cars. I don’t think it’s fair to compare the two quality-of-build-wise.
I’m mostly thinking of the atrocious repair ecosystem.
That’s fair, but again Apple seems to be getting better and Tesla worse.
iPhones don’t trap you in a fiery death without door handles lol.
He’s also not an engineer.
To be fair i never said he was.
But he did that by bribing himself into being called a founder of an electric car company that already existed and already had the plan for initial growth before his arrival.
His main contribution to EV adoption is a negative one; the years delay the rollout of tesla’s dowmarket models because of his insistence the doors of the model X must open upwards.
Ok, these are the only two good points to Musk;s name.
Yes, he did do a decent job of kick starting EV’s again even if it was by crushing down the founders for narcissistic reasons.
Secondly, he did generally tend to have a decent eye for enabling some design details (pre-cyber truck era). He did at least push them to move car design a little further on the original few models, you know the ones that actually sell decent numbers.
Beyond that, there isn’t much good to his name.
Apple makes phones for people who hate technology but are forced to have a smartphone in the modern era.
Don’t forget sheep
That too lol
Musk sounds like a genius to people who are not experts in things Musk talks about.
The worst of Dunning Kruger manifest.
Okay, is the Tesla actually a good car? I know Cyber Trucks are absolute dogshite but what about the others?
Depends on context.
If we’re talking purely car wise they are pretty decent. The build quality is a bit iffy sometimes but the ride experience is decent.
If we’re factoring in price then no. It costs like 40 to 50k USD and even with rebates and ev programs thats way too expensive. Should be closer to 20k to 30k IMO, especially since BYDs would cost around that if they could be sold in the US (probably never happening though)
If we’re including branding baggage of elon then doubly no cause my god that guy is an idiot. He could’ve been the Tony Stark of the tech world back in 2017 or so when everyone thought he was a decent person, but I guess it’s too hard to hide his true colors
From everything I’ve heard, they are mediocre vehicles at best, but I wouldn’t buy one even if they were the best car on the planet, at an affordable price. Musk is a monster, and an existential threat to humankind, and I’m not supporting him in any way.
Pretty much. As a car they are fine, they have some nice touches but overall they are a solid 6 out of 10. Introduce the factor of who you fund by buying them and they become a 0 out of 10 car.
They are pretty good in manufacturing quality terms, but they are too expensive. They are hooked on autonomous driving features which consumers rightfully don’t care about. Outside of diver assistance in highways, they’re gimmicks to show you’re friends once. They also suffer from poor repairability (though they are starting to improve their processes that will help starting in five years or so).
They are pretty good in manufacturing quality terms
My buddy with a Tesla found blue painters tape in place of what was supposed to be a wiring harness.
Fun fact: Musk isn’t an engineer at all.
Engineering qualifications are pretty specific, and usually the term shouldn’t be used loosely if those qualifications aren’t there. Musk’s education ended at the Baccalaureate level, but crucially in Physics and Economics. He pushes himself as some kind of engineering mastermind, but it’s hard to pin down why.
Contrary to popular belief, he also is not a founder of Tesla.
Technically he is founder of Tesla though. He just didn’t found it.
For some reason, in the US you can buy the title of “founder of X”. He just bought if from the actual founders.
I mean, he found out that there was a company called Tesla and then became CEO…
That would make him the finder of Tesla. And to be honest, that’s all anyone should refer to him as.
He discovered it! That puts him on a level with Columbus!
You mean in the way that Columbus of course did not “discover” America (people had been living there for (tens of?) thousands of years, he was just the first white dude who started murdering the people living there)?
Yeah. The Wiki offers the more sane answer.
To be fair, Engineer isn’t a protected title in the U.S.
A Professional Engineer is, but I don’t think I’ve ever seen anyone claim Musk is a P.E.
Titles ending on engineer is so bloated, basically anything within IT is an engineer. A support level 1 engineer. A software engineer. A Quality Assurance engineer. And the list goes on, historical reason being corporate pay bands being based on titles, hence engineers were offered better pay
Prompt Engineer is driving me insane.
Sandwich engineer
I can get behind this.
They’ll be calling themselves prompt artistes next.
Fair
he is a engineer of ketamine usage,
I was at Queen’s U doing engineering physics when he was there doing theoretical physics. We weren’t the same year, but crossed paths a few times. At the time, struggling students would flip flop back and forth between the two degrees because the engineers needed more courses, but only need a 50% to pass a course while the science degree needed 60%. So some people would flip to take the shortest path to a degree. I don’t know if Elon was like that, but he might have gone through most of the engineering program. From what I hear, working with him is hell as he has to be right and any challenge to an idea can easily get you fired. So everyone has to just go along with every shit thing he comes up with. The annoying thing is that he seems to get stuff done somehow - the advancements of EVs and low orbit satellite comms and reusable rockets can’t be denied even though he is clearly deranged and a horrible person.

Data centers in space is some of the stupidest shit I’ve ever read.
Do it, put the data centers in space. I long for the hilarity.
You haven’t lived until you have seen a the Grok AI Waifu data center burn up on re-entry.
A “genius” trillionaire’s only retort is name-calling? What a big fat stupid head. /s
I’m with the Felon Mu$krat on this one. Anyone who thinks he’s an engineer is retarded.
