    You forgot that your starting area determines literally everything about your quality of life and average lifespan.

    As well as the rare “born rich” perk that turns the difficulty of the game completely off and puts you into MC story mode where everyone else becomes an NPC.

    You can change your username later, but yeah, your initial one is chosen by the players who invited you.

    • Levels 7-15 are filled with griefers
    • There are no viable builds for levels 12-17, everything is awkward and unbalanced
    • You’re assigned a team when you spawn, but you don’t even know the teams exist until level 12 or so, and once you learn what team you’re on, you can’t change teams
    • You’re forced to play on hardcore mode and you’re only allowed one playthrough [disputed]
    • There’s no pause, and if you logout it’s game over
    • Game balance is shitty: P2W players exploit the rest, some players spawn with permabuffs in place, others spawn with permanerfs
    • Nobody can see any other player’s HP or buffs, so a player playing on ezmode can pretend they’re just good at the game
    • No official documentation, although certain clans claim they have the official documentation, these clans are frequently at war over whose documentation is correct
    • Released 10 billion years ago, no updates since, no way to contact the devs
    • Multiplayer only
    • Player housing exists, but is absurdly expensive and requires constant grinding to maintain
    • Cooking minigame can be fun, but you have to play it all the time, and it’s expensive to skip it. It’s also attached to a clean-up minigame which sucks.
    • Most food in the game has long-term debuffs that are hard to clear
    • You have to juggle all these meters: health, thirst, hunger, temperature, horniness, sleep, boredom, anxiety, etc. but the devs didn’t simply put them on a HUD, instead there are these frequently buggy out-of-band hints.

        I’d say no character creation options. Characters can only be created by other existing players working as a pair. The characters they create are mostly stuck with whatever attributes their creators possessed, plus some randomness thrown in. Even they get no character creation options. The closest thing they get to character creation options is in choosing the other player they want to work with for character creation.

        Unfortunately, the character creation minigame is probably the most fun minigame in “Earth”, and a lot of people play it without actually intending to create a character at all. They may never even evaluate whether the partner they chose for the minigame might create a good character with them.

        If that minigame results in a character getting created, you can be assigned that character when you first login. There’s no character select screen, no customization screen, you just start playing.

        Luckily, there are a minority of players who play a version of the character creation minigame which, for them, is just as fun as the “official” one, but this version has no chance of ever creating a character. Sadly, most players have absolutely zero interest in that version of the minigame and only want to play the original.

        Some estimates actually suggest that the game is 26D. It’s not the devs’ fault that your hardware only renders 3-4 of them.

    OOF that AI slop imagery - like, it’s so bad now, you can see it from a mile away. how did ai image synthesis get worse over time? they let it eat it’s own garbage, that’s how - gigo is reinforcing all the bad ideas RAPIDLY.

    look at those clouds - you know, the ones that look like a blackmetal band logo - everywhere. and the strange thing going on where the mountains of pakistan meet india - wtf is that supposed to be, continental quilting?

        Here’s another example of unnecessary AI slop that can’t get anything right. The real Dodgers uniform very glaringly doesn’t have pinstripes, like it does in this AI generated slop. It’s a pretty iconic uniform; it’s just white with blue lettering. Yet it couldn’t even get it right. Why do we have to keep pretending this shit is supposed to be the future.

        Because the people that rely on it are not used to and are actually training themselves not to think. Need a picture? Generate it. They will give no consideration as to whether it’s the right tool or not. That’s what slop does to your brain…

      Also it’s literally just a picture of earth. There are a thousand and one pictures of earth on the internet that look better.

      There is zero reason to make this photo with AI. It’s more effort than just googling a photo.

        it’s not an availability thing methinks… it’s a fetish thing.

        they really think that AI should provide everything. then they won’t even have to move, get out of bed etc., they can just become one with their friend the algo, and the slop will flow right to them.

      Technically you can re-spec some of the more ingrained aspects of your character too but they come with heavy financial and social penalties.

      Some even incur the “hunted” status in some servers, like changing “gender” or “religion.”

      Honestly it’s a pretty bad game but they trick you into liking it by giving you access to things like “pets,” “cookies,” and “cosumable media”.

      I tried to change my username. Twice! But the amount of time and paperwork and legal hoops to get it done was ridiculous. Plus, the state I was living in at the time required that I justify my change with a court appearance, and the judge would decide whether my reasoning was justified. And I had 30 days to complete the whole process from start to finish or all my paperwork would be invalidated and I’d have to start all over again. Most appointments I needed had to be scheduled over a month out already! Some required 4-6 weeks to process paperwork and get back to me.

      Another state I tried it in required I make a formal, public declaration in a newspaper or on a TV broadcast or something. I couldn’t just change my username on legal records, I needed to document it publicly for the world to be involved in my business.

      So I said “fuck that” and kept my current username. I just tell everyone to call me by my preferred username, as I’ve done all my life.

        To be fair, nobody actually reads the “newspaper of record.” It is generally not the big, famous paper for any given city, like one might assume.

          Yep, noone reads those outside of the people who need to have an eye on it and probably the press, but nowadays these things get scraped and processed into some LLM, with the chance of immortalizing your name change in random hallucinations.

        Opens up? It’s pretty much pure grind, level after level, unless you got very lucky with your class and skills, or got the “rich” trait at character creation.

        Better go play a less bad game, like Diablo 4.

          Skilling used to be more balanced but now you hit the grind wall super early on, so pvp is kinda lame cause we’re all at the mercy of the max guild accounts who got in before the rework and now just kinda push everyone around on some sort of weird power trip.

          Clearly they don’t have much going on for them in the real world…

    99.9% of people want to play co-op but 0.1% force everyone to play on competitive mode because of the resource advantage playing competitive against cooperative players captures.

      That has not been my experience.

      Quite a few people insist they’re playing solo and act as though all the other players are NPCs

      You also have a real problem of distance rendering, such that people outside your visual horizon seem to stop existing for much of the population.
